Something amazing happened for Star Wars fans

in #starwars5 years ago

Many of you might already be aware of this but I consider myself a Star Wars nut and I had no idea about it so perhaps many of you haven't either.

Basically, a very large group of super-fans led by Danny Ramirez and produced by Star Wars Theory made an excellent fan film featuring everyone's favorite bad guy, Darth Vader. It has very high production value and was basically made simply because the guys involved love Star Wars, there was no grand notion of making a bunch of money for the studio. Well, that's silly for me to assume... but that is their public statement anyway.

They used characters and costumes and names from the now Disney-owned franchise but the acting, the voices, the music and the clips were all home-made. They did not take any stock footage from the films at any point during the production.

It should come as no surprise that Disney took notice of this and copystriked the video and YouTube took the movie down. It was viewed 5 million times before it was taken down. Then something amazing happened....

The fans (you know, the people that pay the bills for Disney) rallied and created a massive group that reached out to Disney / Warner to allow the film. Surprisingly, Disney's problem with the video wasn't the story or characters, but the music. However, the creators of the film actually hired a composer and if you listen closely, you will hear that the famous "Darth March" songs are actually slightly different than those used in the films.

The outrage of the group led to a group plan to boycott episode 9 among other things. But the really neat thing that ended the ban on this film is who came in to help: LucasFilm.

That's right! George Lucas' own company and original creator of the Star Wars universe we all know and love talked to the people at Warner / Disney and the copystrike ended. This came with conditions such as the short film being demonetized and what not - which i am sure was annoying to the creators, but at least it is still available for everyone to watch legally.

Now the really cool part is that the guys who made this had so much fun and are recieving such wonderful feedback that they are going to make further episodes. Personally, I would really like it if Disney would work out a deal with these guys in order to make a full series. This film is done in the dark style that Star Wars used to have before it became a whimsical journey filled with SJW glory.

Sort:

I saw the original short film and loved it. Then saw his first video covering the monetization of his vide. even saw it blow up on reddit. Happy this was resolved and the right people got involved,

Sadly those 10 mins is better than the entire rey storyline

yep, you are not wrong there. I thought Rogue 1 was a step in the right direction as far as the overall theme was concerned and for once stormtroopers were able to hit something

"It should come as no surprise that Disney took notice of this and copystriked the video and YouTube took the movie down. "

OMG, insert facepalm!

"That's right! George Lucas..."
Wow, finally he did something cool.
I mean, he made many mistakes, but nice he helped out this time.

Do you think Disney will create new versions of Episodes 1-3, at some point? Without Jar Jar Binks and other s..t?

well i think it would be a good idea to have some sort of series about this... but then again, even though Disney was not at the helm at that time, EP's 1-3 was all about Vader, but they were mostly pretty awful.

Yes, escpecially episode 1.

I just check this video:

Tons of great actors, wow!

I do feel for the guy (enjoyed his episode very much - as I lean to the Darkside) saw his follow-up vids, but my daughter who works for the WD Empire, they are bloodthirsty when it comes to their licensed-owned properties and with their "debt-load on the books" they are ruthless for a buck. May the force be with you..

Having a bout of low RC and other distractions... I meant to comment how well this all worked out for him...Lucas etc. did the right thing and of course his many supporters around the globe...

Star was have a great following world wide so whenever theey release their series they will surely get some things to creat a new impact on their followers. Love you star wars.

I too watched it and thought it was excellent. I think part of the reason Disney cracked down on it was because it made their own star wars works look like the garbage they are. Here comes a real fan (not the current cadre of star wars writers working for disney) and blows them outof the water with vision and creativity.
Cant have competition to the disney 'vision' for star wars, even if its vastly better.

All my vitriol towards TLJ aside I do think Rogue One was a good movie and I was hoping that that was the direction they were going to go with star wars but nope instead we got Rose and holdo :(
