For the past few days I have been exploring the capabilities to use Steem API to do some enhancements to our @indiaunited community bot. We currently have a community account and a bot account doing the curation on posts of @indiaunited community members and non members who post with #india tag. We have been functioning this community for the past one year with an active discord server. We have a bot on the discord server doing some activities on the Blockchain through the Discord server. I was looking forward to introduce some new features to the existing functionality of the bot.
The past two days was really hectic and very interesting at the same time. It was quite challenging to find out all the information I needed. I know for the fact that a documentation of tips will be available somewhere out there but finding what I wanted was bit challenging. I'm a JavaScript developer, so I preferred exploring dsteem. When I tried doing it, I used the documentation that was provided on their GitHub page. It was not very detailed and helpful.
The documentation had lots of details that I was looking for but it did not have any examples. For all the methods that were available in the API, I had to find an article from Steemit written by other developers. It was also not very easy. I had my node app running and experimented all the commands to understand the purpose of each methods. It would have been really great if there had been some examples for each methods there itself.
Next thing that I noticed about all these documentations was that some of the information in the documentation were outdated. In the recent update there were lots of changes brought in the API and especially after hive mind was introduced. Some of these documentations were a bit outdated still referring to old API methods that are not valid anymore. It will be nice if an activity is done to align the documentations with the latest changes happening on the Chain.
