EOS is going to be a blockchain that allows the creation of Smart Contracts/Dapps similar to Ethereum. They are also claiming the coming creation of an actual Operating System built on top of their Blockchain. That said, they don't have a proof-of-concept yet, but they do have a lot of money and talent working toward their promises, so they are very likely going to achieve them. A co-founder of Steemit, Dan Larimare, is one of the main founders of the project.
