The Fork In Our Stars

Hey Jessives!

The jousting for a position on the steem blockchain has rightly fatigued many of the community members and while we wait on what David and Justin have planned over the next few days a proposal to fork the chain into the so-called "Hive" is now underway with their already being logo designs and plenty of discussion behind the scenes. I think the fork/sister chain is a good measure to put into place even if we do come to some sort of resolution.

Two chains

The reason being the STEEM chain is still under control over whoever the witnesses are and Justin will still have a large say in that. Development from steemit inc will also be influenced by the Tron foundation and code will be hard to push through such a polarised community.

I think the sister chain/hive will allow us to be more agile and changes can be made faster with community developer support and these developers can be rewarded for it.

The average user

The way I see it most dapps will leverage both chains and wallets will be kept separate but be adapted accordingly. The average user will see nothing different if they're using an interface that speaks to both chains, let's say steempeak. Their content will be stored immutably and rewards will be allocated based on the various blockchain rules.

I think this is the free market at work and the chain that provides the most value will win. If Justin wants to get anything out of this investment he will then need to put effort behind improving it to retain users and having them want to earn and hold his currency, be it on the steem blockchain and a TRC-20 token I assume he wants to create that will have atomic swap abilities.

The value will then be able to flow through both chains I'm sure through either exchange that list both or on an internal market.

Decentralisation is more important

I think that people are tied to the chain for many reasons, be it the name, the branding or just being adverse to change and that's a normal human response. I think with so many media eyes watching this situation we have an opportunity to show what decentralization is all about and maybe even move away from being seen as a dead project or an abandoned project by Dan.

It will also take the ninja mine issue and lay it to rest and we can all focus on moving the project forward and giving stakeholders and dapp owners more options which is ultimately what decentration is all about.

Have your say

What do you good people of steem think? Are you for the fork or against it?

So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, comment "I am a Jessie."

Looking forward to the new Hive and hopefully we can move forward in a much better way.

For sure, i'll hopefully just use both and suck out as many rewards as I can and hedge by bets and see where it goes. I'm hoping Hive has more freedom to deploy features faster though, steem doesn't look like there's going to be much if any development from the tron foundation
