Whales are afraid of ideas like this... IMHO
Well, for starters it actually greatly devalues having lots of steem power. Some of these people are sinking half a million into their accounts. In all seriousness its going to probably take a few years before we can really know how the current system will function in the long run.
whales are not capable of coming up with ideas like this, but I'm sure they are capable of seeing the benefits, like increased demand for steem tokens

Why not just add a new sorting category like Trending without Whales or something. Rewards would be the same, but sorting does not consider whale votes.
as long as whales have the ability to hand out rewards, nothing will change, sorting wont do anything
That would be very interesting to see what it would be like for 48 hour voting session with the top 50 whales NOT voting.
Like you said to attract investors they would need to buy well over $50,000us just so their vote and curation is worth it but yet they still would not be anywhere near strong enough to have the prized Veto power.

I have no idea what a weighting curve is, and I would not care to know. Complicated ideas are not better than simple easy to comprehend ones. My idea is simple and most users would get it, a complicated idea like "weighting curve" would seem like trickery

95% of the current whales did not buy their steem power, they mined it when only a select few knew about the steem blockchain and the steem token was worth nothing
Ok I understand. But I've seen my steempower rise quite a lot since I joined roughly a week ago. If this doesn't slow down. I might reach the 500 000 within a couple of months. And you said, that's whale territory. I made a few posts with mostly poems (only a couple of them were a bit successful) and I read, upvoted and commented a lot.
Does the system slow you down after a while automatically?
If not, then I don't mind to wait a while and keep on what I'm doing. I'm just grateful that there is a platform like this where some little person like me actually get read and get feedback from others, that's so encouraging.

Sound like an interesting idea, been having some doubts about the "whales upvote system" for some time now, although i consider ourself very "lucky" to be recieving our share of whale votes. It just feels a bit more centralized when the minority has the majority of the voting power.
