I found 200 STEEM I can't account for. Is it yours?

in #steem5 years ago

Welcome to the 86th weekly installment of my series on Steem income and growth!

Income on the Steem blockchain is generated by "investment" (the more currency you have, the more you earn) and by "work" (earning currency by contributing content that adds value). All my crypto holdings are in the STEEM currency. Now I'm working to earn more, by uploading unique valuable content to the blockchain.

Calculating weekly income

Considering income from accounts that I own, that my wife @MediKatie owns, and group projects using our funds (currently @greatesteem, @hempy, @girlsofgreen, @sativazeee, & @vantocan), here's the running tally:

Regarding the title... you'd think that would be a good problem to have! But it's driving me a little crazy. This is the first time in 86 weeks that things haven't added up and balanced out. I like my numbers to make sense at the end of every week, but I honestly have no idea where ~200 STEEM came from.

The only reason I know it's there, is I was expecting about +50 income this week (mainly from creation and curation), and instead when I added up all our totals, it's about 250 higher than last week. 200 STEEM could only show up on my account (drutter), because our other team accounts have low totals in the 2 digits (other than MediKatie and GirlsofGreen). I re-checked and re-added everything several times, and I'm still way over what I'm expecting.

So I'm just going to manually remove 200 from my total this week, and see if I can find out where it came from. If you know (perhaps you donated to [MAP] and somehow I wasn't notified of the transfer?) please speak up. I'm grasping at straws here, so if you can help, please do. If I can't find the rightful owner by my next weekly update, I'll just assume it was mana from heaven, and make use of it.

(A honeybee I saw collecting nectar from lavender at the end of summer.)

If my team's funds were in a single account, it would be the 4024th richest. We're moving up about 50 positions per week, making ground against the rest of the pack, and should crack the top 4000 this week.

(Side note: Anyone have a recommendation for a trustworthy 3rd party service, that only needs a posting key, to automate some actions on our team accounts which are going dormant? Has to be compatible with desktop PC internet browsers. Thanks.)

I'm fairly embarrassed I've got more tokens than I expected, and can't figure out why. Hopefully it's just a stupid error I'll figure out when I look at it from another angle tomorrow, and kick myself. In a way, though, it highlights the utility of these weekly posts. If I wasn't doing them, I would never have noticed a variation of 200 STEEM on top of my total of about 4000. Kind of like how an internal audit can catch an error in a company before it becomes a real problem. And if I wouldn't have noticed +200, maybe I wouldn't have noticed -200 either? Which brings up the possibility that somebody behind the scenes could drain little bits of money from accounts, and people would almost never notice. I assume there are safeguards in place for that.

Thanks for reading and please let me know if you can help with the mystery funds!

Riiight?
Tell you what, if I can find out how this happened, maybe we can make it happen again? Maybe it's just a matter of knowing how? We'll all be rich, I tell ya!!

It can be really frustrating when figures don't add up as expected, even after redoing them several times. Maybe an explanation will surface.

I hope nobody comes looking for it, haha. Seriously though, hope you find out and they intended you to have it. Oh boy that could help Mission Agua Posible!

That's one of those finds you'll remember forever. Like the time I cleaned my room and found a $20 bill in a coat pocket or the time I found a $20 in a Blockbuster parking lot. That one was special cuz that was $20 in the 90s when I was a kid, so it was way more than 20, plus there's no more blockbusters anymore, haha.

So weird. Maybe donate some of it to the MAP project, if no other owner is found.

Hope you can workout were the extra steem came from.

Heheh :D
PS: I've seen dozens of comments by you, all of them grayed out, and all of them either funny, interesting, or useful. A shame that this happens here!

Well, thanks to this comment, @Drutter, we read the greyed out comment. It was worth it too, it was funny. We've never seen someone with negative reputation lol, somebody's got a hardon for Joe, eh?! hehehe
