EcoGreetings Steemians,
2 Weeks ago with launched a 1SBD Emergency fundraising to purchase a generator for our textile recycling and fashion designing hub that is training women and girls for free in textile recycling and fashion designing in a bid to reduce female unemployment, promote women empowerment and beat textile waste pollution in the North West Region of Cameroon.
So far we have raised over 50% of our anticipated fundraising goal but we still need to raise the remaining amount to be able to completely pay for the generator and we need your support.
We need a Generator because for over one month now, we have been having consistent electricity failure from 08:00AM to 04:00PM and this has made it very difficult for our hub to function.
The electricity failure is due to the current socio-political crisis affecting the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. You can learn more about the Anglophone crisis here: OCHA Report on the Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon
Unconfirmed reports say the main electricity supply line to the region was put down by the separatist fighters. This has made it impossible for the Electricity supply company to access the zone and repair the line because it’s a separatist controlled zone. As such, we have not been having enough electricity because the Electricity supply company is powering the city but with a Generator; and as such are forced to do energy rationing.
The energy rationing has kept us in the blind spot from 08:00AM to 04:00PM everyday for more than 1 month now.
Unfortunately for us, our blind spot is total working hours and we can’t work without electricity. This explains why we need a generator so that we can continue to effectively educate and empower our women and girls as well as serve our people and the planet during the working hours of the day.
