Every Steemit User in the last two days & why the hack was good for us

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

With the website being on and offline regularly in the last two days, many of the writers faced the situation of not being able to post.

Many user - included some in my close circle - got hacked and got their value removed from their account. And although hacks are usually of bad nature they expose flaws in the system. Every feedback is valuable feedback. I for once am a big blockchain enthusiast and love to see the project evolve as a whole. I want to see blockchain becoming a mainstream idea. People need to see the advantages of running a distributed network and start disrupting existing structures. And that doesn't happen without getting a punch once in a while. This hack just showed that human still does make mistakes. But we need them in order to improve and make the project worthwile

I guess steemit will have to decentralize as a whole.
I assume this won´t be long untill we get there, as for now i would really welcome a 2FA.
Although i saw somebody get past that aswell.
But since these are the very early days iam very positive we will manage to avoid future attacks.

can you elaborate? What's a 2FA?

That´s short for 2 factor authentication.
Google has an app for that as an example. When logging in, you need to enter a code given to you by google, displayed on your smartphone.
You can give it a read here https://www.google.com/landing/2step/

I've heard it rumored that 2FA is on its way. That is a great first step.

Yeah 2FA is a great choice

steemit go!!!
