Because it would stay on minority fork, rendering nodes to be useless, potentially too deep in there to recover, my nodes being down means a lot of services not working that relay on them. Also it would look to the community as we given up. It's pretty much similar to just running your own copy of Steem in own basement (unless deciding to actually hardfork and start brand new chain, but still in this universe, we would be absent)
