I'd say that the biggest circle jerk on STEEM right now is the intellectual circle jerk. The assumption that people coming to a front end for the first time and seeing a bunch of STEEM posts stacked there will think: wow, this is the place to be.
Exactly my point. You have to look from a new user point of view.
What good is on-boarding if you none of what they see is familiar to them. None of what they read can hook them.
Does an OCD post hook newbs? How about the bunch of steemfest posts?

Everyone is a content creator here and what we need is more readers. Medium does that much better then Steem does it.

I heard about Steem from James Corbett, I came and read all the Steem related posts and then I joinned.

Blockchain as a whole doesnt have broad appeal let alone a no80 in MC cryptocurrency.
Variety in content acts as a reassurance to those that stumble upon Steemit.
With all the talk about communities and different interests having place here, Steem trending pages do not reflect that.
You wrote a post that was, i assume, motivated by mine and @joshman arguments here, yet on your post you very unfairly missrepresent what we said.
Nowhere do we say: "People should write less steem posts."
You even called it a somewhat popular idea when its anything but a popular idea as seen by looking at the trending page.
If it was popular the trending wouldnt be as populated with so many steem related posts.
@acidyo has been working to push content variety a bit with OCD and blocktrades votes so im hoping this will change over time.
This shows me that the problem of steem topic monopoly has been noticed by curators, which is good.

How would you know that is the reason? They might not have heard of Steem, or they might have hated the interface, disliked the fighting, or any number of other reasons.

I'm not trying to be sharp, I just see this all the time, someone says something and others start repeating it... But often without merit or evidence.
I think it's a factor you can draw some assumptions from. I also think someone actually interested in cryptocurrency (steem in particular) would probably appreciate a steem trending full of steem posts. Being a burgeoning crypto platform, I'd expect a lot of that. But at some point when this mass adoption comes that everyone keeps talking about, it should fade into the background. Some percentage of the masses will want to read about STEEM, but I am confident a larger percentage will want to read and post about topics that interest them. That's why I believe showcasing a good mix is important.
I feel like there needs to be people making fun of steem posts stacked on trending to remind everyone that we aren't where we need to be yet. I've seen some good travel and photography posts start to poke their way up there, so that's pretty cool. Best vote I have for a steem-related post is 10% these days, because I want to see more of that.
