Steem is awesome and I want to build some fun things on top of it. I have registered a couple of Steem related domains and started setting up a Steem node so I can talk to it over websockets. My intention is to write some Node.js code and hook it up to the node for some fun real-time Steem related services.
My current ideas are simple and should be pretty fun. My first project is to build an app that will let you organize and catalog steem posts that you like as well as give you a way to build lists of tags and such to follow. I saw that the follow functionality on Steemit is not yet finished so in the meantime I'll build a way for you to get browser notifications, email, and potentially some other avenues like SMS. I haven't fully fleshed out all of the details yet but I will document it as I build the apps.
I'm going to build my own Steem module for Node.js as I didn't care for the transpiling and bleeding edge syntax the one I saw on here the other day used. It was not easy to set up and the features it uses are still a ways off from being part of the standard Node.js syntax. Instead, I plan to build the module using plain old ES5, the Async module, and ws. This will make it as simple as possible to setup and use for other developers. More to come as I get things built.
I'm kicking around the idea of building a Steem search engine as well using something like ElastcSearch.
Just kind of brainstorming here, thanks for reading!
