I'm new to steemit, but I am enjoying it so far. It's not perfect, but it's not too messy either. I don't know what EOS is about, can someone explain what the big differences are?

Only time will tell that. Let's enjoy Steeming.
I feel some competition is necessary to bring the best out of Steem developers. Hopefully, the experience on Steem will keep going better and smoother with time.
