Definitely, I've taken a look at that. My general opinion is that a dedicated front-end team could run with this idea if they were more focused on the mobile arena. Or if an established media entity adopted Steem, then Steemit might become a footnote.

Steemit.com sponsor newbies so they have enough initial voting power/ bandwidth to perform transactions.
I don't think they care which front end we use as long as we use the blockchain and drive up the price of steem.
I think you're right about that last part. Network buy-in is steady for Steemit but the Steem currency needs much wider application to generate volume and value appreciation for the token...or at least that seems to be how I'm seeing it right now. This is all really new terrain for me so any extra perspective is appreciated.
I'm probably going to give eSteem a try one of these days
