I can see it both ways on this one. Your points are well taken.
I am just afraid eliminating curation rewards would also have a tendency to reduce the overall number of replies to people's work, making them even more frustrated--especially newbies, who we have a horrible time retaining as it is, due to what I see as the bigger problem: a top heavy author awards system.
