SOBER REFLECTION: THE DOWNWARD TREND

in #steem7 years ago

p.s this is no technical stuff.

There is a lot of uncertainty right now in the crypto world. A lot of people are already giving up and here, on the steem blockchain, a few persons are powering down to salvage what's left of their investment. Some are wearing the face mask of optimistic but secretly they are on edge. Others are lashing out on other, playing the blame game as a means to release all their tension and frustration.

I think the latest events in the crypto world has pushed me to my limits. I'm not as optimistic as I was some days back. The price is free falling and I think we might go as low as 20cents. Yes, this presents a great investment opportunity for those who have a couple thousand to dump here. However, people like myself who do not have much money to spend and depend on the steem blockchain, it is really a difficult period. The only positive thing I can take from this experience is that my steempower is growing fast. Despite all the gloom and silence, I am still hanging on here. Why? This is all I have at this point.

It might be difficult to understand that many people, like myself, depend on their earnings here to sustain their daily needs, like purchasing internet data or groceries, etc but it is true. I spend close to 12 hours on this platform every day and so you might not blame me if I expect (not demand) much from the platform. Well, what I consider much might be nothing to you, but that a topic for another.

Asides the financial aspect, I have come to take this place as my virtual home, where I find peace amidst all the troubling things in my life right now. So this platform is important to me and I do want to see it thrive.

Many have suggested that we look away from the price and focus on other developments on the blockchain. And yes, by all indicators, well except price, steem is doing well. But we cannot dispute the fact the price of steem drives many of the activities on here, so it is an important factor to consider. Not everyone here cares to understand the technicalities of this platform, and we will have more of such persons coming into the ecosystem as we expand and their primary concern will also be about the price of steem, and we need to devise an appropriate means to communicate with such persons. Everyone does not speak codes. Most of us here are just sentimental about everything and this should be factored and not dismissed as being irrelevant.

Steem will rise again, no doubt. The question is when, that's crucial. Now personally, I have really not had any problems or pressure at home because my folks see that I am engaging in something productive and I that I can cater to some of my basic needs. So i am at liberty to spend as much time on my mobile device. However, if this passive stream of income dwindles to a point where I cannot sustain anymore I will have no other option but to get a job. I know it might sound crazy, but I do not mind the peanuts I make here, as long as I am creatively free and expressing myself fully, I am fine.

So I'm sorry if I have contributed to your anxiety, but I hope you see this one through, like many of us here, who may not have many options. I'm not going to pretend to be excited at this point, but I'm not leaving regardless.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.<

                  - Nelson Mandela

I'm dead scared right now but at the same time, I'm just hoping and praying things normalize a little in the coming weeks, although I expect the price of more coins to decline, I want to be proven otherwise.

I'm not an expert, I cannot read or interpret graphics and I know a lot of us here cannot as well, and we care less about what the experts say, so I'm appealing to you guys to trust that feeling in your chest. The one that speaks calmly despite the things happening right now in the crypto market. Trust your instincts. It might not be informed by stats but you can bank on it at this point. There are better days ahead, steem has all it takes to come out of this stronger and better. Believe.

I'm dead scared right now

I really enjoyed the "hell ride" we have had for a few days. I am unemployed also and have big hopes with crypto but you can't control such things. One important factor that caused the down fall of prices in my opinion was expectations. Many of us were expecting a bull run, were comparing charts and somehow demanded for such things to happen while the market has done the total opposite. Reflect objectively on your fear and think like a contrarian. Now that many of us have lost their faith I am expecting prices to really go up and do the opposite of what we feel. Have patience and don't stop what you are doing. It takes some time but it will be worth the time once everything "goes back" again.

Thanks for the pep talk. Like I said in the post, fear won't stop me from trying. I'm giving this all I got and I believe it will pay in the end. I'm not expecting a quick fix. The price might drag like this for months but I know that change is inevitable. In this case, I'm hoping for positive change.

So I'm not the only unemployed one. It feels great to know (misery loves company)

Thank you very much.

I'm glad to see you're still powering on, despite the dropping price.
Yes, crypto currency only has a value of people believe it does, but so does any currency, including our country's. All it really needs is for people to keep believing and demonstrating that it works.\nMatt talked about what's causing the crypto plummet and one of the positives coming from it will be the weaker ones falling off. This should make the secure ones stronger when things settle down again.

I don't have the kind of time to put into steem that you are doing, but I'll keep it plodding on in the background and enjoy the social aspect. If things start heading up, then I'm on a winner when others have powered down. If steem fails, then I enjoyed it while it lasted and made some friends along the way.

Well, we are all prepared for the bad days I guess. I'm trying to focus myself not to keep checking price updates and focus on what I am doing here.
