RE: Steem Budget Proposals Whitepaper!

in #steem6 years ago

Hi @jerrybanfield, an interesting idea. Well worth exploring further.

My only query would be on using the weighted voting system, which would effectively mean a small number of the mega-players could chose the proposals they liked all the time.

I understand the rationale for that, but it still has that consequence.

Maybe to mitigate that how about some sort of two stage proposal voting system. For example in the first round everyone that has held an account for more than 30 days, and has a rep of at least 45, votes on a one person one vote basis.

From that first round, say the top 30 proposals would be voted for on the usual weighted voted method.

The numbers and parameters could be altered but that is just the general idea.

Sort:

Just wanted to say I really like your two-stage voting idea.

The first could be gamed by an account having many bots, like some angry whales I know.

The second could be gamed by having a lot of SP -- again, like that angry whale.

So, the angry whale could game both of those voting configurations. However, very few are whales with many accounts. (Or, am I wrong here? Do most whales create extra accounts? I really don't know...)

Anyway, my examples weren't meant to be so pessimistic -- the first round is "one man, one vote" and the second round distributes funding based on weighted votes.

I think an addition to your idea would be: the only accounts eligible to vote in the second round, are accounts which had cast votes in the first round.

It still wouldn't keep the angry whale from benefiting; he could use his bot army on the first round, and then use the same army (and their SP) for the second round.

Perhaps a third round, to vote on the voters, but again, it seems the only two criteria are "number of votes" vs. "weight of votes" -- I can't think of a third method.

Well, perhaps multiplying by the account's reputation (with some weighting; perhaps, 1/10th of rep) might help, but again, whales with bot armies who have been here a while have had ample time to get their army's rep up as well. No clear answer. I really like your idea though! :)

Thank you. It will be difficult to make any voting system here perfect and immune from exploitation / gaming but at least a two stage system might allow for some corrections if needed.
