Just my thoughts though. In times as this, they need to show up and restate their support for steem to gain our confidence. What if some get bought off?

That sounds like a legit concern but I think it wouldn´t be too difficult to reveal those individuals and remove the votes from them.
We all have the responsibility of #whistleblowing to bring the community to alertness.
