As an American, I've been disheartened by the spin and misinformation we are seeing in our press. Political spin is the way we get our news, and the average person needs to dig, read, cross-reference, and judge what the truth is about every subject.
Steem is a way to preserve truth.
Of course, it takes writers with integrity, but when you write and post on Steemit.com, your posts are preserved and the masses will not let it be censored if they believe you.
With the recent shooting in Las Vegas, we are already seeing obscuration by the media. People with the purse strings on the press were quick to paint the shooter as a white local man, not a terrorist. Already the 2nd amendment is being called madness.
What was shocking to me, though, is the absence of this event on Steem. I was shocked to find almost nothing trending or new on the subject. I know its cool to make money on posts.. but this is a platform of change.
Lets use it to promote healing and sending condolences to the victims and families, but above all, lets use it to preserve the truth!
On the subject of the truth and what happened in Vegas: What is blatantly missing from our "investigative journalism" outlet 
is motive and/or political stance of the shooter.
Call me skeptical, but I believe the spin machine is already in motion.
