Tracking your impact from cross posting could not be easier with Bit.ly!
Tracking your cross post impact can provide valuable metrics on the traction that your post are having and the amount of visitors and potential new users that you are bring to STEEMIT with your cross posting efforts.
This can help give you a fuzzy feeling inside for helping the exposure of the network but also give you a sense of where to focus your energy based off statistical data.
What is bitly.com?
Bit.ly is a link redirection service; they will take the link you provide (i.e http://steemit.com/?r={yourusername}) and give you a shortened 'bit link' to use in your cross posts; the best part is they monitor you bit link and provide your metrics such as:
- Total clicks to your bitlink
- Clicks per day
- Stats on which website the clicks are originating from
- Geographical location of the visitor
How much does it cost?
Basic functionality is free! you can even use it without signing up at all; although you will not get the same level or analytics without signing in, also you will not have the ability to customise your shortened links.
You can go to an enterprise level account which will provide you deeper analytics but for the everyday cross poster the free account will do you just fine.
What do the statistic look like?
Bit.ly provides a rich and aesthetically pleasing interface which you can use to view the stats of and of your links.
Thanks for the post. You're right that using shortlinks shows you a lot of insights on your post's impact.
We have a few services similar to bit.ly that were created especially for Steemit. One of them is the one I released last week, https://steem.ly, which also has tracking and activity stats. If you've just that link, just add a + to it in the address bar and you'll see the stats.
Awesome work man! great tool; have bookmarked it for next time :)
Thanks for your support. I'm working on some great stuff for steem.ly that won't need you to go to the actual website anymore to short the links. Hoping to put them very soon.

Thank you all for the insight
Making things simple like this for newbies is great. Being able to see what channels work for traffic generation allows people to get better at bringing in traffic here and iterate on what works, which is good for us all. Nice.
Like this a lot am goner use it thanks cupcake !
Tanks this is actualy wery usefull here :) You did made a great post today mate ;)
your wright, but I love my privy, the more access I give the less privacy i have.
Almost all traffic is being tracked ;)
it is just a matter of who has access to the data-set and analytics; generally it is not you or I..
p.s The tracking that bitly does is not invasive and does not expose IP addresses of your visitors. Simply provides a means to judge your traction in regards to clicks and geo locations of users as a whole
Good point, but the privacy is already token apart online almost ewery where :/
we already given away our privacy when we joined steemit, special if you joined from Facebook like me.
True
I dont know actualy :p hehe god thinking
Good job, man. I think websites from which clicks are made and geolocation are 2 most helpful features for users, regardless of their Steemit experience
Well try to highlight the site but there is and error 404
Good article!
Wow super useful
It should be nice feature. Thanks.
Great source of knowledge for users who would like to know what is working where etc, etc, as this will definitely give more clarity for sure and focus on things which work well :)
