No Need to Choose:

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

I see the debates everywhere:

What will be better a social media site SteemIt 2.0 on EOS or SteemIt?

My opinion? Why choose?

The competition will be good for both platforms and I am sure there will be some who have a preference.    Some already have a preference.

I suspect there will pros and cons on each platform and anyone who is under the impression that Dan will make everything fair, Obviously have forgotten Dan was here through much of the distribution phase.  He may or may not be able to solve some of the distribution problems or perhaps he will not allow bots or paid voting.  Either way I am confident that new problems and some of the old ones will emerge.

  • You can make some of the people happy all of the time.
  • You can make all of the people happy some of the time.
  • But you can never make all of the people happy all of the time.

Although I feel good about the future of Steem, I am aware we have some problems and there are issues within the community and with SteemIt, Inc.  EOS may solve some of those and they might spend money for marketing.  Steem has first adopter advantage and for people who are doing well here, it will be hard to decide to pull out and head to new territory.  Some of us will likely use both platforms and gravitate towards the one that is the most attractive to our individual styles, content and preferences.

Is SteemIt going to be the equivalent to MySpace?

Everyone remembers the story of Myspace being the first to market and starting to create a social media platform before Facebook.  Facebook came along and passed up Myspace.  Read the story here.

I don't pretend to know how it will all turn out, but what everyone fails to remember is that Myspace continued to have employees, earn money and distribute content and money.  It didn't just die.  Is it really that bad to be 2nd in the game?

I don't know what will happen and neither does anyone else who is giving great predictions on one or the other.  I bet a year from now both platforms with have dedicated users and an active community.  We will be spreading the word about Crypto, struggling to learn how to move projects forward while respecting other's freedom.

I can't wait to watch it play out..

What are your thoughts?

@whatsup,
Somehow I might join STEEMIT 2.0 on EOS! But I will always be here, coz I have enough confidence to say STEEM + STEEMIT can change the entire social media phase in to the decentralization!
My only hope to see STEEM at top 10 coinmarketcap at the moment!

Cheers~

I'll check it out for sure, but I tend to be loyal. They would have to have better "something", for me to care.

I really don't think it's going to have an effect on Steemit at all. If anything it may help Steemit rise as it creates more awareness of these cryptocurrency based blogging platforms.

I suspect that it will be vastly different. We will also have the SMT based blogging platforms to deal with that point as well. So at this point at least we're going to have

Steemit, EOS, ONO, Appics, Onstellar.

We'll see how it goes..... but I'm feeling pretty good about the price of Steem at this point.

Me Too. I've gotten kind of fond of the Interface also. When they change it, if they do.. I will likely struggle. :) I feel optimistic.

It may just be that I’m dense, but I just don’t grok EOS. Hopefully it will make more sense to me when it’s gone live.

I find all the EOS hype really hard to digest, it hard to differentiate between the people that believe in EOS and the people that are there just because they are Dan fanboys.... In fact, i wouldn't be amazed if the price of EOS suddenly crashes when Dan decides he got bored of EOS and skips to another project, since he has a reputation of being a builder and not a maintainer.

Hasn't Dan already planned to leave EOS for other people to run? I don't get how that's going to work, it isn't something I'd like to invest in at the current price. I sold mine for 60 cents though, thinking I could buy back cheaper. That was a big mistake :) At least I learned something from it, better to hold and regret selling than sell and regret holding.

For the average end-user unless they have an amazing interface, I doubt there will be much difference.

I use a fork and a spoon. Sometimes I even use a knife.

Good perspective. I think there is room for two or more platforms. Steemit is much more like Reddit than Facebook. There is still room for a more private social network!

First steemit then second Eos.
Steem always be 1.

So is it confirmed that ...there will steemit 2 and if yes when it is going to be ...can you give any further details or some probable dates of launch of steemit 2 in EOS.

I love steemit that is why I have joined but sad to hear that there will be steemit 2.

I don't know what it will be called, I know there are a couple in the works. Don't be sad, I don't think we will notice it that much.

Steem has the early player advantage and Steemit 2.0 that Dan mentioned a while ago is not going to even be the main thing on the EOS platform, there's also similar incoming platforms on EOS like ONO, but at this point in time, i believe its too early to make a call, since Steem is still in the minimal viable product phase and there's still a lot to come and the competitors are not even in the market yet.

Try posting this thread in 3 years and you may get different answers but for now, Steem on baby :-P

A quick skim of the ONO whitepaper reveals 75 initial for them, 5 per year for everyone else. Not a very good distribution, and it reeks of get-rich-quickism, plus there will be plenty of favoritism when they're choosing how to use that 75.

I'm pretty loyal to steem also.

The first thing I just have to point out:

RIGHT NOW, TODAY, 2/3rds OF ALL STEEM TOKENS ARE HELD BY LESS THAN 1% OF ITS' USERS.

Do you still think that SteemIt is great because it is, "decentralized?"

My vulgar conclusion regarding this deeply flawed social media experiement is as follows:

STEEMIT IS A GIANT CIRCLE-JERK OF WHALES, BY WHALES, FOR WHALES. SOMETIMES A MINNOW GETS SPLASHED ON OR CRUSHED IN THE FRENZY, BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT.

SteemIt is a very useful place. A lot can be learned here. But, you have all heard the saying:

FAILURE IS THE GREATEST TEACHER.

I have learned so much on SteemIt - precisely because it is a massive failure, a beautiful explosion, and a train-wreck that I could not take my eyes away from. It has been fascinating and tremendously entertaining to watch - worth every bit of my $300 investment over the last year. But, the failures of the current SteemIt platform have kept me from ever investing any more into it.

Oh yawn. Drama, capital letters and accusations of failure and not a single real point besides distribution. I agree distribution is the most negative element of the site.

Decentralization is THE MAIN POINT of a system that claims to spread out the rewards, yet consistently fails to do! We don't all have an extra $50K laying around to invest in Steem Power.

The last guy to really break out and become a "whale" was @haejin - who has received nothing but endless harassment for doing so. And, he had to put in a butt-ton of money and hard work to do so. SteemIt claims to reward "good content," but it is only rewarded by those who have Whales as their patrons, and/or spend hundreds of dollars promoting their posts with bots and vote-buying.

Personally, I much prefer to invest in my stacks of physical silver and gold, at home, in my safe. Give those a big 100% downvote. I'll come back tomorrow and let you know if they got any smaller for it. But, they are truly "Decentralized" - out of the banks, out of the FIAT, out of the system - and they are not touchable, except over my dead body.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! SELF-PROMOTING, SELF-VOTING, VOTE-BUYING MASTURBATORY ACTVITIES. I think it's great!!! Where else can you use a social media platform as if it were a savings account with compounding interest?

I've also put boosters on other people's posts today. I didn't invest 50k, I earned it blogging.. HERE. Fighting whatever the current situation is/was and adjusting my own game as the game changed.

Yawn. It's hard.

Good for you! That's awesome. Hard work can be rewarded for people here on SteemIt. It is good for people who got in at the beginning and learned how to use it. Two years of hard work has paid off.

Exactly, the sad stories about your lack of 50k are getting old. Post, earn, use the money to lift yourself up. Stop tearing down the site and others. It's getting old. You don't know my story, but it doesn't stop you from making assumptions.

Fair enough, but that coin has 2 sides. ;)

Certainly, you'd agree that SteemIt has several nagging flaws. I'd like to think they can be addressed by a SteemIt community, it's Witnesses, and Developers in a more timely and successful way than we've seen so far. But, it's been.. 2 or 3 years, Larimer has moved on, and the flaws remain. In a lot of ways, it's like watching a pack of wild dogs fight over a dead carcass. Because of SteemIt's lack of speed when it comes to adapting to a changing community, I tend to think that better technology continues to be, "just around the corner." For now, it's the best thing going in Social Media for BitCoiners - but I doubt it will remain that way for much longer.

If I had no use for SteemIt, I wouldn't be here. Would I? My money is in better places than SteemIt. I'm just saying, IMHO it's not the best thing around.

No sad stories here; I don't keep serious money tied up in Steem Power. Just 100 SP, so I can participate in the discussions - which are very educational. I'm not the one who has to wait 13 weeks to get to my money when it's needed, just 13 seconds to open up my safe. It's just my way of thinking that stacks of Walking Liberty coins beat Steem Power, every single time - but everyone is entitled to think whatever they want. Steem Coins are great for short trading, at certain times, but powering them up makes them less useful - for me. I make much more profit by trading than I do trying to write a blog and make internet friends.

Lots of people on SteemIt like to be, "trendy," to be all about, "anarchy," and, "peace, abundance, and liberty." So, why the hell would they espouse these ideas, pretend to live by them, and promptly hand over control of their money, for any period of time, to a mixed group of internet surfers?!?! It seems a strange, slightly incongruent philosophy.

Yes, I can do both!
Competition is good but I can do it both! I can what was in steemit or in EOS! There is no need to choose if you can have both!

But to issue and issue, this was done so we can talk about it!

I gotta go with BOTH to start. Obviously invested heavy here and will stay that way. I have a bunch of EOS in my core portfolio as well and will check it out, as with many other block chain opportunities.

What I am hoping is that it doesn't get splintered like music did after NAPSTER was shut down. It splintered and there seemed to be too splintered a sharing community til torrents came out and that was the wild west with virus-laden downloads everywhere.

Love my STEEMit and will check out everything as I expect all the veterans to do.

Let those boys compete, we shall see who brings us a better product. However, I will not be in any hurry to power down. I love steem and the community.

Sums up my stance in 2 sentences. Healthy competition will hopefully push each platform to innovate and improve at a faster pace.

I will try EOS Steemit 2.0, if I like it I will probably use both.

I'm a steemit promoter..and my friend let me tell you..Eos cannot take over steemit though i hear its growing on a high rate.

This battle will be great to see but i agree with you every aspect will have bad and good, so Steem Blockchain is great and it will grow and EOS is coming with great concept, so it will also grow and possibly with rapid speed, so let's hope for the healthy competition. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I agree completely.

There are going to be 7B people online in 10 years. That is a lot of people who will be using different applications on blockchains. There will be a ton of social media sites all doing their thing.

Even on the STEEM blockchain, Steemit is not going to be the main application. With the introduction of the SMTs, you are going to see a ton of apps show up, many that will be more popular than Steemit.

In fact, we might see a facebook type application designed on the STEEM blockchain that is better than any of the apps on the EOS blockchain.

Who knows? It all comes down to who has the better app and what people embrace.

EOS should be a tremendous system...yet from what I understand, aspects of it can be drawn into the STEEM blockchain if the development team chooses.

I think I'm going to try steemit2.0 on EOS if it's good to me and I love it then I will continue but that doesn't mean I will abandon steemit. I will be doing both even though steemit2.0 ends up being better

Where can I find information about the platform that can be created in EOS ?.

Of course steemit is better than eos. ..

Never heard of steem 2.0. when is it going live

I'm only here since a few days, but I really like the way Steemit works. It's incredibly simple and broken down to only the necessary features. That's really neat, especially compared to other sites that are completely overloaded and you get lost in the functionalities. My bottom line: Competition to Steemit really has to be good to beat it.

Is this new site already online or is its name already known?

Competition is always good for users. To be honest I don't see them overwhelming Steemit in upcoming months. As you have said "You can never make all of the people happy all of the time" but if Steemit will start staying behind because of some current soultions it will for sure force @ned to at least change game plan a little and enter some changes to keep up.At the end of the day it's not that bad and it may even help Steemit develop. We as community should be happy that there are gonna be real competition😊
