I'm going to guess that the "thingy" is part of the steering wheel of a car; at right, immediately above the center crossbar if that's how it's configured.
Failing that, it might be part of the upper structure of an enormous spaceship...

Oh yes, that be the Wheelius Steerus (English translation: Steering Wheel). Part of the ancient family of "Automobilius Mechanicus." That be a rare sight to catch it up so close without it rolling away and playing "they see me rolling" once the fleeting happens. Truly a nice catch if I say so myself!
