In a game of football,it is not the team that runs around the pitch a lot that is awarded but the one that scored. A football team which does not know the ultimate reason for the sports will just play the ball around to excite the fans but will lose out on the medal. But the one that just focuses in putting the ball in the net will emerge the winner. It stands to reason that one could apply a lot of effort in life and still have no results to show. That will mean an that such a person is not applying the effort on the most important thing.

A student could fail in exams despite the hours he devotes to studies as long as it is not in line with what was required in exams. Many Christians do not know how to get results from God because they do not take time to identify that which God considers important. They just go about doing whatever pleases them thinking that those are the very God will be pleased with. Such was the thinking of Martha. Luke 10:41,42

When Jesus paid them a visit in their home,she just busied herself with house chores with the intention of making Jesus happy,but her sister Mary sat at the feet of Jesus listening to his word. When Martha complained to Jesus for her sister's attitude of not helping her in the kitchen at that time,Jesus rather applauded Mary for choosing to listen to the word which Jesus considered to be the most important thing; and that the blessing she had received could not be taken from her.
