Following Jesus: Conditions for following Jesus

Good day to you all, I was down with malaria few days ago and that is why I've not been posting regularly for some days now. Thank God I'm getting better.

In this post, I want to continue my series on the title Following Jesus. In the two previous post on the series I have explained what it means to follow Jesus and it's implications; and why it must be Jesus that we follow. You can read up

Matthew 4:18-22 (NIV)
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,
22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

In this post, I want to discuss the conditions for following Jesus.

Some people who decided to follow Jesus have missed this point. One of the reasons is that they feel that since they were the ones who chose to follow Jesus, they can choose how they want to do it.

The truth is that you willingly responded to Jesus' call, however, once you responded, it will no longer be you who set the conditions. Rather, Jesus is the person who set the conditions for following him. He asked you to come to him the way you were, but you can't continue to follow the way you were when he called you.

There are three conditions for following Jesus as we can see from Luke 9:23

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

The three are:

Deny yourself
Take up your cross
Follow Him

These three conditions will be discussed one after the other in my next post on the series.
