WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ALCOHOL?

source

Scripture says a lot about the use and misuse of alcohol and gives us several examples of both. What does the Bible say about alcohol and what should we learn?

The Scriptures do not prohibit the proper use of alcohol but warns us strongly against its misuse and condemns it. The dangers of alcohol abuse are clearly stated in the Bible.

The Bible cites many occasions when alcohol can be used appropriately. Wine and other alcoholic beverages can be enjoyed in moderation during the celebration of God's feasts (Deuteronomy 14: 23-26). Wine is considered an evidence of God's blessings and prosperity (2 Chronicles 32: 27-28, Proverbs 3: 9-10). Psalm 104 blesses God for his greatness and in verse 15 gives a list of life-enriching blessings such as bread, oil and wine that "gladdens the heart of man" (this refers to a delicious meal , not into intoxication due to excess).

Wine is part of the celebration of Easter (Matthew 26: 27-29; 1 Corinthians 11:25). Paul warned against drinking too much wine at Easter (1 Corinthians 11:21), making it clear that what he was talking about was an alcoholic beverage, not just a juice.

IS IT SINNED TO TAKE ALCOHOL?

source

The Word of God condemns drunkenness and excessive drinking, but not moderate drinking (1 Corinthians 6: 9, 10). In fact, since time immemorial, the servants of God have consumed wine, a drink that is mentioned more than two hundred times in the Bible (Genesis 27:25). "Eat your food with rejoicing and drink your wine with a good heart," says Ecclesiastes 9: 7. As this drink fosters a spirit of joy, it was served on festive occasions, such as weddings. It was precisely at a wedding that Jesus Christ performed his first miracle: turning water into "excellent wine" (John 2: 1-11). It was also used for medicinal purposes (Luke 10:34, 1 Timothy 5:23).

WHY SHOULD THIS MATTER BE INTERESTED?

Every year, countless families suffer because one parent - or both - abuses alcohol. Drinking too much also contributes to many accidents, such as falls, car crashes, etc. And over time, it can damage the brain, heart, liver and stomach.

Moderation in drinking and eating is essential to have God's approval (Proverbs 23:20, 1 Timothy 3: 2, 3, 8). He dislikes the lack of self-control. The Bible states: "Wine is a mocker, intoxicating liquor is a troublemaker, and everyone who goes astray through it is not wise" (Proverbs 20: 1).

THE DANGERS OF DRINKING TOO MUCH

-Although the Bible mentions the good things that wine has, it also condemns excessive drinking and drunkenness. Therefore, if a Christian decides to drink alcohol, he should always do so in moderation (1 Timothy 3: 8, Titus 2: 2, 3). The Bible gives several reasons not to drink more than necessary:

-Prevents thinking clearly and clouds judgment (Proverbs 23: 29-35). A drunk person can not fulfill the biblical mandate to offer his body-figuratively speaking-as "a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with his faculty of reason" (Romans 12: 1).

-It causes one to be disinhibited - or not to control his behavior at all - and lose the motivation to do the right thing (Hosea 4:11, Ephesians 5:18).

-It can lead to poverty and cause serious illnesses (Proverbs 23:21, 31, 32).

-God hates drunkenness and excesses with drink (Proverbs 23:20, Galatians 5: 19-21).

So, in summary, what does the Bible say about alcohol? The Scriptures instruct us that drinking alcohol is not prohibited. But those who decide to do so must do it carefully and in moderation and must respect the decision of those who decide not to take it.

Good post¡ . Alcohol abuse hurts us physically, morally and spiritually, and the Bible assures us that drunks will not have eternal life (1 Corinthians 6: 9, 10)
