Today I want us to learn something so important .that is the person of the Holy Spirit.when we say the "personality" of the Holy Spirit,it means that the Holy Spirit is a person,not an impersonal object
1.The Holy Spirit posseses the attributes of personhood. the basic definition for personhood is the presence of intellect,emotion and will. In other words, a person thinks ,feels and makes decisions. The holy Spirit passes this three fold test.
1.Intellect
Romans 8:27 ,And He who searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because He makes intercession for the Saints according to the will of God. 1 corinthians 2:10-11 also speaks of the same thing
The main goal of the Spirit given to us is to cause us to do what He the Spirit want s not what the fleshly man wants that is He carries the very will of God in our lives .He is not a glorified bellhop.
2.Emotional
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God , whereby you are sealed unto the day of Redemption.
That is when ever as christians we disobeys Him it pushes him to grieve and when it happens like that ,He excuses Himself from the christian.
3.Will
Acts 16:6-7 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and a region of Galatia and were forbidden of the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia .
7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia but the Spirit suffered them not .
Meaning the Spirit choses what to do at a time and when to do such thing.
The work of the holy Spirit confirms His personality ,we will discuss the works of the Holy Spirit more in depth in but now let notice that what He does reveals the attributes of personality.impersonal odjects do not do this following
He teaches requiring intellect John 14:26
He testifies requiring intellect John 15:26
He guides requiring intellect and will John 16:13 and Romans 8:14
He convicts requiring intellect John 16:8
He regenerates requiring will John 3:5
He intercedes requiring will Romans 8:26-27
He commands requiring will Acts 8:29,13:4,16:6
3.The Holy Spirit interaction with peoples shows His personality. The way the Holy Spirit interact with peoples also reveals His personhood.
We may grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)
We may resist the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51)
We may lie to the Holy Spirit ( Acts 5:3-4 )
We may blaspheme the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29)
As a good christian when you start experiencing these attributes then he or she is in the realm of the Spirit personality and in this realm you always get it right because you under the leadings of the Spirit Bible say when the Spirit comes He shall lead us into all truth
God grace us all to know and understand His son Jesus into the knowledge of Him and the hope of our calling into His marvelouse light
