Hunter's comment

Kano is a fantastic product for youngsters that are interested in learning more about computing. You get to build a small kit-based computer using a Raspberry Pi 3 and the Kano OS. The kits come with easy to follow instructions and all the parts necessary to gain the confidence needed in today's high tech world.

Pros:

  • This is fantastic! I would have spent hours with this as a kid! I grew up with a Commodore 64, and would have desperately liked to take it apart if it wasn't so valuable to me.
  • Love that it's all in friendly uni-sex colours, I'd be upset if this was only marketed towards boys.
  • $100/$150 is really cheap for an actual computer... as bare bones as it looks. Even the $250 kit looks great.

Cons:

  • Adding in the motion sensor kit and the pixel kit starts to get really pricey, but man, they look great!
  • This almost makes me want to have kids....

I got one of these for my son. I loaded up the retropie game station. Now there is an Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Genesis, and Supernintendo. Awesome little device!

I love these types of kits. We have a couple for the kid.

Totally. I had a few Pi's but then came across this kit for my son. He set it up and was running Linux (Kano flavour) that afternoon. Also had a minecraft development version. It was pretty neat for him to create a code block and have it show in minecraft.

This looks to be a great product for kids

Yes, it's a good product, in my opinion. I have a couple of them now... when the kids tire of them you have a couple Pi's now to play with too.
