This is very impressive - that a robot can be programmed to create this, and it's also open-source, which again, I applaud.
But...I kinda hope they don't take this any further.
It's a good tech demonstration, but shouldn't a piece of art be the result of a creative process, rather than code? And that process takes [human] skill, hours of dedication and at the highest level, real genius.
Because eventually, they'll faithfully re-create, maybe even "better" the work of the masters - Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Rodin, Beethoven, The Beatles...where does that leave us? What will we have left?
I love tech as much as the next guy/gal, but sometimes..."just because you can..."
I dont think its any different than a stencil, or printing a sticker. I can't produce a fine work of art by hand
Yes, I agree. But I don't mean this tech in it's current state - I'm talking about v5, v6, v10. Somewhere down the line, as the tech gets "better" and the art it produces "more human" - that's a path I don't think we need to tread.
