I wonder what differentiates this from Uber and other ride-sharing apps out there?

I went to the download site and noted that this is available only in selected cities in the US. That makes me wonder too, is this a start-up?

UberPool is a shared ride service. Uber is a ride hailing service.
Via is a technology platform on which cities & enterprises develop their own apps & services. Via, though, has its own app for selected cities.

Via is beyond the start up stage.
The service is supported in selected cities.
