After a long hiatus, I'm back on board...until how long?! :)
Ever heard of Rambox? Then you might want to try FRANZ. It's one of a few chat/messaging apps that has gained exposure recently because of the ability to combine and manage several messaging apps in one.
Pros:
It's quite straight forward to manage your Gmail, Skype, Slack accounts in the same app. No need to download a dedicated desktop app for each messaging app.
Cons:
Responsiveness, a bit slow sometimes because of Electron. You need to register.
