The Merits and Drawbacks of: "100% Steem Power" Rewards.

in #steemit8 years ago

Some impromptu thoughts on: 100% Steem Power as a reward option, it's benefits and drawbacks.

When a new post is made, the author can choose, via a drop-down menu, three distinct options:

  • Decline payout: Usually used when posts are relevant enough to merit a re-post, but you are not the author.
  • Default 50% / 50%: This is your usual payout. Half of it will be in SBD and half in Steem Power.
  • Power up 100%: With this selected, payouts will be ENTIRELY made in Steem Power.

After making a few posts I found myself with the question:

Which one should I chose?

And while I have not been able to find definite answers, here are my probably wrong thoughts on the matter:

Decline Payout

I understand why this option is useful, I even used it the other day. However, it seems to me that, for obvious reasons, it is the least used option. As an author I am not interested in posting without the possibility of monetization, and as such this one will mostly be out of my mind. So let's look at the other two:

Default 50/50Power Up 100%
Steem Power takes a long time to cash out, so getting SBD can be more practical for some people. It gives you an additional 'flare' next to your post. This can draw more attention to your tagline.
Most posts seem to follow the Default setting. The name sounds better.
Default will work for most people, as even if you want Steem Power, SBD can be converted into it.Some people are lazy, and we'd rather not do any extra conversion.
This payout scheme is unlikely to hurt your vote count. Some people may really want they SBD, and as so may find voting on 100% Steem Power posts not as productive.

With all of this in mind, it seems to me like unless you have a compelling reason to want 100% Steem Power, it either doesn't matter, or it is in fact a better idea to use the default payment system, as it is less likely to drive people away. The extra flare next to the tagline would seem to not draw enough attention as to merit going outside the Default reward option.
