As my power has not reached a level where I can upvote handsomely, so I will count your engagements that are good, accumulated it and then I will pay you through my wallet the total amount after the 7-days post-payout done, For example, 0.05 per good comment x 10 comments = 0.5 SBD. What do you think about chasing Whales and Dolphins? If you are doing it, do you benefit from them? Do share with us your related stories.
In my observation, there's this culture that was embedded in Steemit whereby most people really like to chase Whales and Dolphins. Do you believe that this place is all about chasing Whales and Dolphins in Steemit environment? I watched to my dismay many newbies got flagged into oblivion for spamming on those Whales or Dolphins posts. The reason being they were influenced by others who behave the same.
Here's my advice, I feel that if you are in here only for the money, then you will continue chasing those Whales and Dolphins. But if you are here to stay longer and stronger and build your reputation, you will be choosing the right path that is to focus on producing quality contents and find other Steemians that have the same way of life in this Steemit platform. And at the end of the day, you will support each other and this will make you feel that you belong here. You will work your way to becoming one great steemian that will eventually grow into a Dolphin/Whale yourself.

Hello @syedkashifhussai, welcome again. The sea of Steemit has to be sailed in one ship towards one direction then you will sure to reach your destination. Without a clear objective and following the rules, you will lose your direction and will end up drowning.

I use to hope for whale to come visit.
There was a time catchawhale.com was one site I visit in the beginning.
Then came the whale no voting experiment which I guess sort of force some of us to grow up on our own. I think some left and came back when the price of steem and SBD went back up and regretted not persisting.

When I first set my feet on Steemit - I was first started with dMania (believe me, the experience was so damn funny and unforgettable) After that, I joined a local Steemit group and being recommended to kick start my journey by writing some articles.
I've received many upvotes from Orcas & dolphins (I didn't earned my credits by spamming them, by slowly building my relationship with them)
Hence, for all the newcomers - if you think that Steemit is a place that you can spam and get away with enormous money = then you better seek other places...

I agree @wilhb81, after all those whales/dolphins they are also human. Of course they can feel our sincerity when we are commenting. I have only one whale in my list as am in fanbase of @cryptoctopus. My comment was auto voted (3%) for each time I comment on his post. This type of relationship is very nice. But how I got in was to always read and understand his post before commenting. I applaud @cryptoctopus for his generosity.

Yeah, I am very lucky to have been in his list. But there is this one whale that I feel is very strict at handling spammers his name is @onceuponatime. Please see this one example below, this steemit user was really really flagged to oblivion (RP0)... sigh

Yes, they are the rare ones here, because all of us are newbies and juniors. We can try to make friend with them but only through posting great comments that are related to the post being commented. They are all very sharp at detecting fake comments and spammers.

It is not easy to build a relationship with those Dolphins/Whales, but once you get their likings, then you are already in their whitelist. Mostly, some newbies will send messages on the post comments like "follow me, upvote me" right... which most of the time will just be flagged, but there was this very funny comment that I had to share, just for laughs okay. This guy was flagged few times, but he was very persistent indeed in sending his same messages that have been flagged few times in that same comments thread, and the last one...
I found this very amusing.
Maybe he has not understood or have not understood, I ever have the same thing with him, before I know if to write "follow back", "follow me", etc. it can disturb others
Yes, please learn this lesson well and never get a flag for a silly reason like this. It's a waste of time to comment on other people's post and then get a flag right. It's not productive at all.

I'm only about 2 weeks using the @steemit platform. i heard many ways to get sbd such as creating multiple accounts and spamming people commented to be divote. but I learn from friends and take the right path. trying not to spam. perhaps most people want money but do not take valuable experience from people in different parts of the world. maybe that's it from me. Thanks @atakan57, you are absolutely right. We must focus first on our self-development. For myself I have only one example, I am a follower in fanbase of a whale @cryptoctopus. I set my auto upvote for him in steemauto and I commented on all his posts which he will then give me an auto upvote of 3% which is very nice. However, most of the time I am focused at creating my own content and brainstorming myself to finding ideas.

But I believe in sticking to certain principles irrespective of what the work, and keeping everything clean and ethical. It would be such a win-win situation if the fun part and the financial part can actually go hand in hand !!!
Yes, I fully agree with you @quratulain, we are all here with an objective to be successful in this platform and earn while doing so, a win-win situation. We shall keep on learning and striving together on how to be the best of the best in this platform. Following the rules so that we can have a smooth sailing towards our objective. Receiving a flag can be demoralizing as well. So play safe is good to ensure we can speed up to achieve our objective here.

I obviously can't say about anyone else, but I would like to actually be able to enjoy steemit the way we enjoy other social media platforms like facebook and instagram. Although the beginning has been rather slow and disappointing for me, I really want to be able to find and connect with people whose work I enjoy and who, in turn, enjoy mine.
Steemit is sea where you can get what you want . If you get right direction understand rules you will forget other social media . And please done feel shy you can talk with anyone they must welcome you .

Wow I can’t believe I missed your post and now I’m so far behind! :) Lots of comments to catch up on. I just can’t even imagine spamming. But I try to understand that for some people the potential payout must be so attractive. I have been in much more difficult situations than I am now, and I know it’s a bit of a luxury to be able to spend so much time here actually reading and getting into great conversations with people. But still, I just don’t think it’s a sustainable approach. But your question was more about following, or chasing. I think it’s fine to look for good content, and when it happens to be a whale making that good content then engage and follow just like anyone else. But my sense is that any future great profit will likely come from the minnows you grow up with. Will we still be supporting each other five years from now @ainie.kashif?? That is the question!

I agree with you, I follow the same method, for as long as the content is good I have not given a thought whether he/she is a whale or not. I will respond to those content that I like. Those chasing whales as you said is not a sustainable approach. I am also juggling my time between office-family-steemit, my plate is full. Most of the time, I feel it is such a challenge for me to follow the bustling activities here, but as my objective is to achieve success with a group of red fishes that we are all now (according to Steemit Board technically we are not yet minnows). I focus on my aim and wish for the star.
Will we still be supporting each other five years from now? That’s an excellent question. I hope so, although that will remain a question for all of us. All I can say God Willing. My wish will be, we shall remain strong together, be more successful after five years’ time and still keeping in touch once in a while with each other. Since I've only been around a couple of days, I didn't even know people did that. I assumed that needlessly following someone would get you flagged. So far, all I have done is post whenever I have something genuine to contribute, and look for posts in my feed that I find interesting. I comment every time I ACTUALLY have something to say, instead of spamming with posts such as "great post, nice post" etc.

@ainie.kashif - My thoughts on the topic of the week,
Firstly, Thank-you for having such an important discussion and topic for discussion.
Secondly, I think we need to seek finding our our style and personality on steemit. Sometimes this offends some people but others will appreciate it; if we truly believe in what we are doing. Having said this we should not be openly confrontational, but seek to educate and defend our positions.
Thirdly, having been involved in some red flagging incidents both receiving and giving. I believe that some incidents needs to be flagged out-rightly such as vulgar and obscene comments. However, some comments simply needs guidance and and understanding. I have experience harsh and bullying behaviour from senior members, fortunately I was able to work it out and explain my behaviour. On the flip side those individuals who guided and assisted me are key people for me on steemit today (just like you @ainie.kashif and @kobusu).
Fourthly, I've found that not all people are community based (very conservative, if you know what I mean) individuals and defend their blog post as if it is the richest square mile on earth. Not Cool, but just be aware. I believe that are blog posts should be a melting pot of various views and influences. If we don't like or agree with a post or comment - we have several options before flagging it (unless it is grossly obscene), we can ignore, we can educate, we defend, we can reject...etc
Fifthly, I don't condone spamming, but we must realise why spamming exists - It is because it make us more productive and efficient. So if my culture is to be productive then am I not unfairly being flagged? Personally I've had to adapt my style to conform and don't seem to have any issues lately, but I still feel productive. Just as we have the responsibility of educating the spammers we need to take on the responsibility for educating those strict flaggers we drive fear into newbies. They must realise that they sometimes abuse their power.
Finally, begging culture is rife but it has become part of the steemit environment, so much so that it is part of introduction posts. I think we must not condone it BUT we need to educate and be patient with those who are unaware. I was not aware that requesting an upvote was "begging", in some cultures it's haggling and business as usual. Sometime a lot of the people that flag without educating have evolved to become snobs. I hope this is not too harsh, but we have to avoid the possiblity of steemit becoming so rigid that we lose our individualities and personalities in the process. Personally, I have removed the footer Comment, upvote, resteem and follow from my posts, as I believe that this is what started the begging culture! Why is it ok to have these words at the bottom of your post, but it is not ok to beg to haggle for them? lol...I hope i haven't created too much mayhem with that statement.
I trust that my contribution brings a slight different perspective to the topic.

Hi @rlt47, I wish to put forward my thanks for seriously engaging yourself in our group discussion and put your serious thoughts on what are being discussed. There are few of your opinions that I must agree...
Firstly yes we must have our own style and personality, that’s what I called branding strategy.
Secondly, I understand on how you must have felt when you are being flagged many times, I would feel the same if I am in your place. Anyway, we are all juniors and we all are still in a learning phase and we know that we can build our own potential and become better along the way.
Thirdly, yes I agree some people are not community based and are very harsh and defensive with their posts. We knew how they behave and who they are, so we should avoid them at all cost right. There is no point fighting with the big guys and trying to move the mountain. It is definitely a waste of your time and resources.
Fourthly, you must know that being productive is okay but if you are continuously being flagged, it will lower down your reputation level. It is very important to know that if your reputation score goes below 0, Steemit will hide your posts and comments which will affect your monetary rewards and your followers.
Finally, in my opinion you can place in your own post any footer that you like, this is called pull factor. Your page, your posts are your own territory and you are not barging in someone else's territory so that is okay. The push factor is when you are pushing those footer that you have mentioned into the face of others which where the terms begging arises.

I like that big word you used branding strategy.
I think that when it comes to being flagged one needs to assess and evaluate, keep the good and drop the bad, but don't stop being yourself. The real problem I have with flagging is that it uses "violence" to make people conform.
I hope you don't mind me harping on this point a little longer as it is a debate / educational session. I don't fight these guys but it is important to educate flaggers in 2 aspects.
a) they have a responsibility to teach newbies before flagging.
b) that their behaviour is bordering on bully tactics.
It is important that each Steemit user use their own discretion and not self-destruct - Rule 1, lol!
The adding of a footer is obviously a personal matter, however for newbie it is very confusing as it was in my case; and if a user comes from a haggling culture it automatically kicks in that instinct to hustle... I personally decided not to add to the confusion that newbies might experience. The fact is they need positive role-models, who proves that no begging or requests for up votes is necessary at all.
With my two cents we now have four cents...lol! Have a fantastatabulous (spelling intended) day!
Hi @rlt47, we all knew that this wired world of steemit has no leader, just some big whales, dolphins and policing bots who rules with massive Steem Power, so some of them tend to abuse their power and that’s a fact. I also do not condone any type of bullying in this case, perhaps we can call this behavior sort of cyber bullying, but all this can be easily avoided by observing anyone before you enter to comment on their page. Maybe it’s just being at the wrong place at the wrong time. All of us decided to join Steemit and engage on our own discretion. It’s either play safe or take risk. Your choice my friend.

We are discussing about the begging culture here in this Steemit environment that I observed where some steemians are continuously doing. This behavior then got infected to those newbies who would then also begging some Whales/Dolphins to follow or upvote their comments. I feel most of the time, a pity of these scenarios. It then resulted to many policing bots being created here in Steemit like the spamcleaner, and latest one Spamfinderbot. What I saw were so disturbing as they behave like they couldn't care if they were flagged to oblivion as long as they get the attention of those Whales/Dolphins, isn't it ironic?
@ainie.kashif - I'm afraid I mis-understood completely. I've come across the term Topic of the Week before in a different context. In this instance it would be your "Topic of the Week".

About the topic, I don’t know how everyone else sees Steemit, as for me I try it to see it as a place to share the things I want to share, I always wanted a blog, so I see Steemit as my personal blog and thinking in the income as a plus; if I focus only the income, I might feel frustrated if I don’t get a certain amount or I wouldn't create content that I’ll like to share. I think what has helped me is that I started among 3 of my coworkers, we are helping each other, sharing ideas and new discoveries, every day. I'm looking forward to share more with all of you.
