Is YOUR life controlled by materialism?!?!

in #steemit8 years ago

Many people get caught up in the mindset that material things in life such as cars, house, money, etc. is what makes them happy. Being materialistic is no being happy, it is only covering up what you truly don't have on the inside. It's a way of fabricating happiness.

Now here is something I want to make clear. Making money and surviving is one thing, it is something we all need to do in order to live. But many people confuse needs and wants and think that these "needs" are necessary and will make us happy. We really need to take some time to think to ourselves every once in a while and think about the things that we really need versus wants. Materials will not make us happy, they just are a filler for our emotions and give us something to be distracted for. Take this into consideration, when you die, do you take these materials that make you "happy" with you??? People really need to understand that material things are just emotion fillers and distractions and is NOT true happiness. True happiness is not something you can buy, it is something that you have to find within yourself.

Well-written! A lot of us might deny the fact that we are controlled by materialism. Sad but true, we are controlled in many ways by materialism, especially the younger generations where a lot of their daily practices involves money, transaction. Like getting the newest iPhone, the best laptop and so on.

In fact @alex-icey I would take this one step further and say that materialism is not only a distraction but in fact acts to drive you even further away from happiness ultimately.

In the upcoming months I'm looking to cull a bunch of things from my life... childhood memorabilia, assignments from my university days that earned me success and cost me much effort... the motivation is to free myself from the unuseful and make room for the useful, not only on the shelves but in the mind.

Deep stuff hey 😎 well we'll see how it turns out. Nice post. You seem quite enlightened on a number of things.

Life is a journey where everybody grows up in this consumption driven society, and needs to discover that this is not our real goal in life. Some people get lost and other will find there way to the real peace and love in life... I wish you the best on your journey!!!
