Pardon the lateness of this post. I've got a lot on my plate lately, but then I can't let this milestone pass unacknowledged. My first "Holy shit!" moment looking at the number of followers another user had was 4,500.
I surpassed that long ago. Now I don't have the same feeling of progression. Except the long trek from here to 10,000 I guess, but that still seems like an unreachably distant horizon. Besides which, follower count does not reliably correlate to income on Steemit.
There are people with under 1,000 followers making drastically more than me. That's both really cool and sort of soul crushing as somebody who has thrown his hat over the wall, and committed to making a living at this or bust.
Still, statistically speaking, the more the follower count increases...the better odds I have that some of the new additions are whales. Right? Eventually I'll get the right sets of eyeballs on my content, and then I'll be set.
I won't have to worry about whether I can make rent and utilities. I won't have to carefully add up the cost of items in my basket when shopping at the grocery outlet to make sure I don't come up short at the checkout counter.
That might just happen by itself if the price of SBD recovers. There's precedent for SBD surging during Summer, as occurred twice before. But I'm talking about lasting organic growth. If SBD breaks into the big leagues with BTC, LTC and ETH, then my problems will be destroyed.
It's sobering, but these are the same struggles faced by millions who are trying to find their place in the new economy. What is there left to do which can't be automated? Is everybody really suited to content creation? Are we all going to put food on the table just by entertaining each other?
I actually like the sound of that. It's sort of romantic to think that tomorrow's economy will revolve around enjoying one another's company. That seems like a distant dream right now. But so did 6,500 followers when I started in July of 2016.
10,000 or bust. That's my new goal, do or die. I expect it won't be as bumpy a ride, as Steemit matures and breaks into the mainstream awareness and internet culture. Some people do this as a hobby, but I don't want to do anything else.
I never want to have a boss. I never want to have to get up at 5 am to drive my cold, stiff ass to a building and deal with people I don't know and don't like, doing something I feel no investment in, something which has no discernible purpose other than to make the guy at the top of the ladder wealthier.
Until other crypto compensated content creation platforms begin to pop up, then, it's Steemit or nothing. Necessity is the mother of invention, and humans only got this far by inventing some way to keep our heads above water even when it seemed impossible, time after time. When the penalty for failure, people can get awfully damned creative in their search for success.
I didn't come this far to give up just because SBD dips. In the crypto world, what goes down must come up again. I'm gonna make this work, watch me do it. More care packages! More excursions, more jokes, more scary stories. Bigger, better, and more of it!
I'll just keep doing what got me here. I don't know what else I can do. I don't like that I've built my life on something as volatile as the price of crypto currency, even having diversified my holdings, but there was no other way forward. I think a lot of people are in that boat now.
One of those boats said to be lifted by the rising tide, surely? I'll just keep building my yacht then, in the middle of this desert, even though it doesn't seem to make sense right now. I march to the beat of a drummer others cannot hear, and trust that the future won't make a fool out of me.

I’m aware you are in this much longer than most of us, your followers. I’m sure you already went through these taugh times. It really amazes me how consistent you are. You post average 4 post per day, which is unreachable for me. In the past few days I tried to post one each day ( very taugh), I just wanted to find out if buying votes is actually profitable, make some statistics, I had to try it in real life. My conclusion is “not really”with few exceptions. There are only few I will keep using such as @lays (1 sbd max), @smartmarket (I sent $5 SBD immediately after I published my post and they Upvoted in a matter of few minutes with whatever they have available and rest is refunded, their upvote goes 100% to you, no curation, because it’s in the first 20 min of your post being published), @bumper (0.5 SBD) and @dine77 (max 0.3 SBD). The rest is just rip off. I’m heavy invested in crypto overall. I know there was already seven crypto bear markets since bitcoin came in light. This time is no different, we just have to get through this.

Hey I've enjoyed some of your posts since I've been here. Congratulations @alexbeyman . I think the key is just to contribute what you feel others will enjoy or find valuable, and what you want to say. If you find success then it's a bonus and supports new stuff.
As for 'work' well.. people find ways to cheat on this for awhile, but it takes time and work to create good posts, and be a 'boss' in any social media platform! And these platforms need good bosses!

Your journey to reach 10,000 followers is just around the horizon, I saw your profile board and the whole progress you've made with it, and you're right, people with lesser makes more, but I can tell you're more for the community than selfish interest, you're really doing something with your blog here, congratulations buddy it's a fantastic milestones.
Why did you say that the price of sbd spikes during summer. I joined December though and have watched it spoke just once. But is December summer? I stay in Africa and so don't experience that ...pls pardon my seemingly dumb question.
It spiked in the Summer of 2016 and again in the Summer of 2017 IIRC. The recent spike in December was unexpected for sure.
When exactly is this summer? On what months does it fall into?

I understand how you feel right now. I too do hope to make a living off Steemit or die trying. I'm not blessed with the writing skills that you have but am pulling along small small. So we all hope the the future won't make a fool of us. For now, grab a glass and cheer on.
My first couple months were rough, too. I made nothing at all for a long time. The people who succeed are just the few who stubbornly kept going when everybody else gave up.
That's true, I have onboard over 50 people in my 2 months on Steemit. I have gone as far as purchasing data subscription for a few with the price of Steem was a bit high but then only about 3 are still pushing it till now. I feel guilty for the bandwidth that the over 50 inactive account consume but that goes to tell that only those who makes the effort to push ahead will make a mark in this community - I do hope my name will make it.
You write well and seem earnest and determined. I am of course already a follower of yours. So long as you can create your own inextinguishable fire of motivation inside yourself, an infinite wellspring of energy to push your body forward no matter how tired and cold it is, you will make it in the end. Nobody will supply that fire from the outside, you must be able to create it inside yourself out of nothing. I am confident in your chances.

Of course I'm not perfect yet but am doing all in my ability to improve more and more with each passing day. I read over 100 posts a day and drop a few comments here and there. I also feel same way about not working for someone, am a newbie and I have started that journey to get to the top same way you started it in 2016. Steemit offers so much freedom and being a Boss of your own. You decide what to post, when to go for vacation or trip. Make people laugh. This past month I have been here on steemit, you are among those that inspires me to always push. success is close by, just continue walking till you get there.
10,000 followers is achievable, I believe you will get that the end of the second quarter of this year.

It is the different drum beat, that is one of the elements that makes for a valued life. Accepting what we did, and more important, accepting who we are. it is our past that made us, it is our present that will preserve us. You have a good collection of post, something for just about anyone that runs across your post. People like it, they tell others, others come, and they follow, not because you have a whale size reputation, but because you have a real reputation for quality content.
