Characteristics of successful Steemit post

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I just analysed the top 10 most successful posts on Steemit and the below are my findings for what it takes to make a successful Steemit post.

When to post

Time is one of the most important factors when making a successful post on Steemit.  The U.S. Eastern time zone rules Steemit.  Posts submitted around 9am EST tend to see the most success, whereas posts submitted around midnight EST typically do the worst. I can only guess this is the result of American workers on the east coast coming into work and firing up Steemit before actually starting their day. Also note that the weekends see a larger fraction of successful posts, most likely because there’s fewer posts submitted on the weekend (and therefore less competition).

What to post

Now that we know when to post, we need to figure out what to post. You may already have an article in mind that you want to share, in which case you can skip this section. But if you’re looking for ideas on the kind of content to share, keep on reading. The most important thing to get out of the way is that imgsafe.com — an image rehosting and sharing site — is the domain of choice for most steemers. In fact, nearly 2/3 of all successful posts on steemit were links to an image on imgsafe.

For better or for worse, your post stands the best chance of becoming successful if you’re sharing some form of visual media: images, GIFs, or videos (in that order). Articles sometimes do well in certain categories depending on their focus, but they’re almost always outperformed by post with images. I suspect this is because most steemit users are on mobile devices, which makes reading lengthy articles unappealing.

Where to post

Now that we know to post some sort of visual media hosted on imsafe around 9am EST, we need to figure out where to post it. For that, i looked at all categories for the most successful posts that had made a least $10,000. The most successful seems to be #introduceyourself and #steemit  followed by the #travel category.

Summary

Your post has the highest chance of success if you:

Important caveat

As always, only post content that is relevant, interesting and of value to the community that you are trying to reach.

why imgsafe? can't one use one of the others as well?

They can, but it seems imgsafe is the most popular for now among the most successful posts. I`m sure this will change with the emergence of steemimg.com

Well, I think you are mostly right! There are other factors as well. Beside, at this point Steemit users are not only from US, but from all over the WORLD!!!

Thats right, they are from all over the world and that what i love about steemit. But if you want a post to be successful its seems you have to cater for the US users which is where the largest concentration of users are based-

hello via Bali , Indonesia

very helpful , I wonder why one of my pictures just vanished ...I am using postimage.org

I upvoted this.

then upon seeing that you outright copied & pasted ALL the tags from one of my posts - or had seen the tags from my most recent one and went back to copy them to yours - I removed the upvote and went to downvote.

seems my account doesn't have access to downvote anymore, so it didn't go through.

take note, however: there's no rules about pulling something like this off. but you got busted. and frankly, it's NOT cool. I get the strategy, but you win no originality points, and would have been downvoted for attempting this if my account had the ability.

you have not earned trust by doing this. frankly, I'll have to assume that if you're willing to copy & paste chunks of content like this, the bodies of texts in your posts may not be your own either.

it's nice knowing that I may have inspired you to try. but you have not made a favorable first impression.

Yes, its true, i took some tags from your post, but these tags are like hash tags on twitter to gain visability on similar topics, or is that not the purpose of tags? i'm just trying to use what works to spread useful content to the community.

i use hash tags other people use too, its just about using whats trending or works in making your content more visible to people how would not normally see it but might find it useful.

I get that. but copying & pasting the entire lot of them...?

@rok-sivante why should you get more upvoted just because you used a load of hashtags that somebody else didnt?
Its the content that counts! and i found this to be a good post imho and so did many others by the looks of things

Factual correction: When I tried to find imgsafe.com this resulted in a domain for sale page. Looking at the source code for the image above this post, I discovered the correct website URL is: imgsafe.org instead.

imgur.com or steemimg.com may work for you either.

Thanks for the formal analysis. I was working through some of the same concepts and your work validates my thinking.

Hi! And which topics do you think that are more interesting for the community? I have a lot of ideas, but it would be great to know which topics are helpful for the community.

Thanks for the advice, I'm starting something here, and this was helpful

Thank you! These are helpful tips. 😊

i'm sorry about that, but there is no need to spam in others peoples posts.
