7 Things to Avoid Being Flagged by Steemcleaners

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hi! Fellow steemians,

I have joined steemit almost three weeks back. I am following many people, reading blogs, taking part in discussions and learning about how the platform works for the betterment of the community.

I have seen many people mostly newbies posting and commenting without reading Steemit Etiquette Guide created by @thecryptofiend and then ending up being flagged by @steemcleaners or @cheetah bot.

What are Steemcleaners?

@steemcleaners, A group of steemians who handle the issues like plagiarism, copy/paste, ID theft, spam, scams and other forms of abuse on the platform to maintain its productivity levels high and keep the platform clean.

You can find more details about Steemcleaners Here.

What do they do?

They do flag the content guilty of plagiarism, copy/paste, ID theft, spam, scams and other forms of abuse on the platform.

What are the consequences of being flagged?

Flag is a kind of downvote. When you get flagged by someone with the higher reputation like Steemcleaners it negatively affects your reputation and makes your posts less visible.

Here are 7 things you should avoid to prevent yourself from being flagged by @steemcleaners

1. Plagiarism

Whenever using information from any other source always mention its source or write it down using your brain. Plagiarism is an unforgivable sin.

Here I am adding screenshots from the report of @steemcleaners

2. Copy/Paste

Always read the posts, try to understand what the writer is trying to say and make fruitful comments. Copy/pasting a comment/post means you are not here to contribute to the betterment of the platform but just for the sake of making money by wrong means.

You will get flagged if you do copy/paste.

3. Photo Plagiarism

I suggest you, to click/make images yourself instead of using others work. But if it's necessary to use images from other sources, always try to use free images from sites like Pixabay.com and never forget to mention the source or give credits.

While using photos from other sources if  you don't cite the source properly, you'll be guilty of Photo Plagiarism and get flagged.

4. Tag Spam

Always use the most relevant tags for your post. When you use tags which are not relevant to your content and are popular tags too it creates a mess and make it hard for people to find relevant content.

So, be wise while selecting tags for your blogs. Otherwise, nobody can save you from being flagged.

5. Spam

If you are posting something which could be a fraudulent scheme and people could be cheated in that, it would be considered as spam.

Adding some screenshots to make it more clear for you guys.

6. ID Theft

When you use stolen name, photos and content of someone else and pose that it's you, you are guilty of plagiarism and will get flagged.

To make it more clear, I am adding a screenshot here from the report of @steemcleaners.

7. Comment Spam

When you make an irrelevant comment on multiple posts just to seek followers or for the publicity of your own content, it will be considered as spam and will get flagged.

Here are some screenshots of a member who posted the same and irrelevant comment on four different posts and get them flagged, that's why they are less visible.

Thank u so much for such an encouraging feedback. I am learning and trying to improve my writing skills so that I could do better.

You are welcome and you are learning very quickly indeed. Steem on!

Great and simple, thanks for sharing, I was looking for this post to come.

Thank u :)

I will be using my other account to test the effectiveness of this bot. I fully support this, I want to see if there is ways around it. That way people can know and you can fix it. I'll begin once I'm done with this dam paper.

Thank you for the comment.

Thank you for the post, it is good info.

"If you don't cite the sources, you'll be guilty of Photo Plagiarism and get flagged. ", can be a bit misleading, though I believe I know precisely what you mean, the absence of a cited source doesn't mean it's plagiarized, it could be the author's, and I personally like to believe the best before the worst.

Example, in my own work, I am not going to cite myself or usually anyone else behind us as the source, I expect a reasonable human being to, unless a direct complaint is received with evidence, not assume that an image or design is not our original work. If we don't cite, assume it's ours, unless you have good reason to believe otherwise.

Reminders of citation needed or the cheetah bot is coming to get you can feel like overzealous guardianship of what someone else feels Steem should be, and offputting to newer Steemians.

Thank you so much for the detailed comment. Editing done, I think its better and more clear now. :)

You are most welcome, and honestly, that editing is up to you, nothing I say is to be taken as the final say on anything, ever, lol. I have seen that some take the trouble to cite themselves as sources, some do not (and there I make the assumption that they are the source).

Thank YOU for being so open and gracious when accepting criticism, there are days I could do better on that myself :).
