Taking on this project was no an easy task, giving this titanic responsibility to Denis Villeneuve, relieved our anxious souls, but doubt was always present until we finally had the opportunity to enjoy the movie on the big screen, and what can we conclude? Villeneuve didn't disappoint.

But beyond the story, one of the most outstanding things of this masterpiece is the cinematography and the handling of the color within the plot. It's what I'm interested in sharing with you in this post.

In terms of photography, this movie give us one of the most amazing framings of recent cinematography. Deakins gives us one of his best works ever. For me, as a photographer, watching it big screen was a visually orgasmic experience. I believe that's how Kubrick's fans felt, back in the 70s, watching 2001.

The use of symmetry, as a composition rule, to drag our attention in what's going on the shots (even the mundane tasks) is used in a perfect manner...

But now, let's take a look of how, I believe Villeneuve and Deakins used the psychology color to communicate certain parts of the plot, shall we begin with the white color?

White is seen a lot in the beginning when we meet the replicants and how are they used 30 years later. White make us feel the pureness of the being and also is often used as an association to sterile spaces. So I think they linked the white color with the essence of the replicants, as I already mentioned: the pureness of the being.

Blue is the other main color used in the movie, primarily to show us how is the life in the city: distant and melancholic

And finally we got the most used color in the movie and the one associated with Wallace and with Deckard as an almost full circle: yellow. We can associated it with hazard.

I'm almost certain in the upcoming delivery of the Oscars, George Deakins will get the Best Cinematography Award.

This post I will end it with other perfect shots of this masterpiece...
