Let it be known, that I was required to accept the new terms of service and privacy statement without being allowed to read them. The terms of service would only display for 5 seconds before reverting back to the accept terms screen. Same issue with the new Privacy terms.
Being that I was forced to accept the "NEW TERMS" blindly I hereby state that I was forced and coerced to accept the new ones and that the only terms of service I have accepted in full are the "Original Terms" as laid out in my initial sign-up for Steemit.
And I agree with ^ my friend above.
I agree with both @bashadow and @deliberator above thank you😊
It was incredibly intrusive and annoying. It came in and locked us behind an "acceptance wall" which is really dirty pull. And guess what? They fixed the problem with not being able to read the TOS and Privacy... and then seem to be making everyone "accept" them, all over again...
Seems a bit fishy, to me. Or, at least, opening a doorway to misuse.
=^..^=
The initial update was removed after about four hours due to the problem, and number of complaining post that were done. I did notice in the TOS this:
Notice that little two letter word - "above or posting" - between above and posting? So now they can just change it whenever they feel like it, and as long as they change the - "Last Updated" - then, if they do not feel like it, even need to tell you it has been changed, so if you want to know if the TOS has been changed you will need to look at it every day
Honey
Bomb
I noticed that! Pretty crummy!
Not sure it is even legal how they did it. That's why I made my little post, not that I remember everything the originals had in them, but those are the only terms I hold as being in effect for me. We will likely have to go through this exercise again tomorrow, or in a day or two when they see how badly it was done.
Heh... right?! It was strange because I was trying to post my post and it kept saying there was an error. Checked my internet and it was all good. After refreshing multiple times, it finally popped up. It looked weird, like not very official so I was worried about opening it to look at the new terms. Tried anyways and it wouldnt let me in! Dirty scoundrels! Hopefully theres nothing too fishy going on there!
That is completely unethical. For being decentralized, they're sure a little free with some liberties. This is not one to just simply flash in someone's face.
I got a response from Tim Cliff, he says they already pulled the update, so I am guessing we will need to do it all again soon. At least they responded pretty quick to the outrage this has caused.
Good. Maybe something went goofy with the code. (let's hope it's that) Thanks for the update @bashadow :)
Glad to see someone speaking out about this. That it was strange to lock us out for a new agreement. Thanks @bashadow
Ya I haven't gotten the New Terms thing yet neither. Let's hope they did see the screw up and fixed it :)
After about 4 hours, it caused such an uproar they pulled the change. Still waiting for another one to happen only smoother, without the glitch. I saw a short time after it happened at least 10 others posting about it, and one of them was a whale, and a witness to boot, he was like me and others, not a happy camper.
i just got one today... have you noticed the new terms yet
I just got it now. I haven't been on long. Glad it's working good now :)
Same here although the terms are only for steemit.com. If you use another interface like eSteem, they have a different TOS.
All the little doorways have their own we get to steal this from you if you use our service to access this other service, and our terms will override their terms, oh, and our terms also override all other terms you have agreed to in the past 20 years because we demand that if you want to use our service. TOS are garbage, all of them. If people really read all of the terms of service associated with just one computer operating system they would be reading for the next six months to six years.
Yeah the only way around it is to build our own.
Oh wow any news on the new terms?
The terms of service as far as I could tell the only update was to the Privacy Policy link I think. But I do not have the original to compare it with. The privacy policy is real real long, and I am sure it had a lot of changes in regards to who has the right to use and sell what information they want and to who. I think that was most likely brought on by Microsoft's Purchase of github, and that steemit is telling people that their content is their content on steemit and github. I am not a github user since I do not develop programs, but I would imagine that new Privacy Rights are going up for github also.
I didn't even see a new terms of service pop up...
Give it time it will arise, unless they already know it is messed up, and pulled it already. The new terms window would not let you do anything on steemit until you clicked accept, it would not even let you read the new terms, until you clicked accept.
hf20?
Microsoft buying git-hub?
LOL no they are working on a new hard fork....
https://steemit.com/bandwidth/@steemitblog/blockchain-update-2-hf20-progress-and-bandwidth-changes
Lol I didn't even think twice about it, it was so annoying I just accepted it.
Until they allow me a chance to fully read before accepting (yes I read the new ones already), then for me the old terms still apply. I do not accept the new terms, as they were forced on me.
men! That makes a few of us who have experienced this today! Not nice boys!
No it really was not nice, and I am not sure it was legal, but, at least I can, once again, steem on, after accepting their forced terms.
Somehow, this does not sit well...
incompetent programmers.
Yes, and due to our mostly incompetent legal system, they will say the law only requires us to let you know that we made a change, which they did, they just did not allow you to read the changes. But I am sure they would say they were full in compliance with the law by notifying us that there was a change..
doesn't look to me like there have been any changes
however Steemit has done itself no favors by their presentation.
"incompetence is more likely than malice" holds true in most cases.
but it doesn't help their credibility one bit.
Usually changes are minor like oh look a typo in the old one a misplaced comma or something. For the TOS the only thing I noticed was the updated link for the Privacy Policy. But it was still forced, and we were not allowed to read what we were agreeing to. Coercion.
yup..the horror.
time to power down and leave.
You going full in sola, or did you find a new place to hang your hat?
naw..I effectly quit sola a long time ago. I got tired of 'american bashing'
(I have more reason now than ever to be against any kind of foreign aid)
I'll continue on Steemit...I'm just leveraged so that if things go south I won't be (financially) hurt quite as much.
PLUS.
I've got some other irons in the fire in the real world.
(boat..house...landscaping...and stuff)
Crapulence, galore.
But at least we both made posts and publicized what took place. That's about the only thing we CAN do, I guess...
Yep, and state we were forced to accept. I do not accept the new terms, they may be better than the old terms but the reality the only terms I accepted freely were the ones when I signed up.
I agree, although I was not told what the new terms are it quickly flashed on my phone screen and was gone. i didn't click anything to accept and it just accepted. was it a glitch?
No glitch that any one has been able to determine, just a poorly designed update protocol, will likely see something similar again in a few days. Programmer oops according to some.
i see, i haven't asked around yet i was poking around your post somehow and saw your disclaimer paragraph ... LOL!
Just had to click that thing again this
morning June 15th 2018
After already clicking it the other day!
Sometimes I wonder,...
Agreed. Kind of lame... I stand with @bashadow
Sigh.
