Steem Improvement Idea: User-Invested Sub-Categories

in #steemit9 years ago

I've seen a number of posts about developing out more tags or sub-categories and it got me thinking of the incentive structure already apparent in the Steem platform.

Purpose: Give users the ability to decide on which sub-categories should be developed and maintained.

Parameters: Users are able to 'vest' SBD or Steem Tokens into a sub-category of their choosing in order to amplify rewards within that sub-category.

Explanation:

  • sub-categories that are heavily invested into will generate the most content;
  • funds that are vested can be withdrawn by the individual who invested to encourage transparency and maintenance;
  • SP and SBD both generate more SP and/or interest like a normal user account;
  • generated bonuses are redirected to content creators and/or curators within that sub-category
  • creates a social contract that could be delineated in announcement post (preferably with verifiable escrow contracts that can be built into author post creation processes

What say you?

Interesting idea. I'd like to know what kind of ideas the developers have been kicking around, those they rejected and ones they might try out in the beta.

That's a good point.
I dont know enough to know whether an idea like the one above is even compatible with the Steem BC

If there isn't a way to implement simple contracts into posts, that should be a priority. It changes the game even more and allows for trustless reward sharing schemas.

I see it playing out where people create the subs based on their rep and Steem Power/SD/Steem . Giving credibility to the sub-categories. Its moderation based on rep. The community could even vote via the steemblock chain to remove someone it's not like Btctalk and theymos.

@blakemiles84 I am not sure how they do it now, but I think one metric to be used is popularity. For example if hash tag "xyx" becomes very popular and used by many, that metric might be one of the ones used to determine whether this hash tag becomes a category. Anyway, just my two cents, literally, haha.

ps and thanks for the upvote on my blog, I appreciate the support.

such as any sub ? not quite clear

if there's a critical mass of users, any sub.

That's a brilliant idea. It could act as a "prize" to pull in new authors too. It could maybe be split equally amongst all the posters or given to the top 10 the possibilities are endless:)

Apparently you don't realize that you don't have to rely on the official developers. You can develop most things you can think of already!

Also i like the idea of curating tags more. Like investing in tags like in domain names in the .com boom!
