There is a small bot-net that upvotes anything with the steemit tag - I think it's designed to make noobs feel a bit loved. Prior to the bot-net they used to sit there with a lonely 1 vote.
Ok, that explains it. I never had so many votes in such a short amount of time :-). Thanks for the info.
