Announced a couple of months ago, the initiative of splitting Steemit.com into two different online properties is now live. From now on, you can use Steemit.com only for posting (including commenting and voting) but for any token related activities (sending, receiving, powering up or down) you will use a different site, called Steemitwallet.com.
I didn't include links intentionally in this text, because the preferred (and more secure) way to access Steemitwallet.com is by using Steemit.com UI. When you click on the "Wallet" link on the side menu or in the profile menu, you will be taken to a new website, which looks very familiar, but which only has one feature: token management.
Why Splitting?
The main reason behind this is, short term, security. But long term, there is another strategical benefit, which I will try to outline below.
Short Term Benefit: Security
If you want to use Steemit.com, you should log in with your posting key, because that gives you a smaller set of permissions. You can't make transactions with your posting keys, only with your active key.
Interacting on Steemit with a smaller set of permissions gives you what it's called, in terms of security, a smaller attack vector. In other words, there will be less chances for you to inadvertently expose higher permission keys and in the event that your Steemit.com key is compromised, you will only lose the ability of posting / commenting / upvoting, not your funds.
Long Term Benefit Number: Flexibility
Splitting a monolithic app into functionally-based pieces can pave the way towards a more flexible approach. Steem is a blockchain and you can build all sort of dapps on top of it, not only social media.
Steemit.com, the website, is the most popular application of it, but, as games like Steem Monsters showed us, there's a lot more to do in this space. Having one place for your wallet, and as many places as dapps are for any other stuff, looks like a more intuitive and flexible way to go forwards.
One more thing, if you try to log in with your password (or active key) on Steemit.com, there will be some sort of popup informing you about that. Along with that popup, you will be able to download a PDF file with all your keys and permissions.
Please, take very good care about that file.
Steem on!

I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards |
resteemed, because I am too lazy to write an informational post to my followers about this myself :D
This is big improvement , much more secured
Good to know, thank you.
Since I don't use steemit.com, I wouldn't have noticed it myself...
I am still yet to get used to this changes. Maybe as time goes on
My main concern is would steemit share the advertisement revenue to steemit user because if steemit showing ads for their operating cost then I have no problem but what if they make huge amount of money from our content. @amar-patel
Hi @dragosroua
This is one of the questions a steemian asked me.
I wonder if you would help
Thank you
I cannot speak for Steemit INC, as I'm not part of that organization, I'm just a witness on the STEEM blockchain. So, I have no idea when or if they will share ad revenue with users.
Thanks for the reply @dragosroua

looks like steemit is evolving , its a good thing if it make life easier for most of us, hope we wont have issues and bugs as we try to log in
Good morning Mr!
Now Steemit will be another app into the Steem universe.
Pretty cool.
I only saved up my master key, before all this changes. How do I get my other keys.
Settings
Looking forward to the changes and improvements. Kind of inconvenient now to access your wallet, but I understand the reason for the changes.
The reason I'm excited for these changes is because the more and more they get accomplished the closer and closer we get to SMT development and finalization.
Seriously, Iont find the development funny at all. Everyone knows they copied whaleshares, we know, and whaleshares copied busy.org. we know it's the curse of open source. Copy me and I'll copy you.
But one mistake lies therein, the wallet is supposed to pop up on another page since it can't be backspaced(dead end). By that it will be easy. I know you're a witness, so tell them to check where they copied it from very well, how it's done. And do it right. Mistakes everytime, first was hard fork and now this.
