I might be missing something here, but does anyone know how to markdown (markup) a hyperlink to open a new window when posting content on steemit? In the old days we’d just add target=_blank after the url and Bob’s your uncle, but that doesn’t seem to work on this platform.
Having links open in the same window as the steemit publication/story, effectively takes users away from the story/article. Ideally, a new window would open with the external links, and leave the underlying steemit post where it is.
That would be much more user friendly, IMHO.
Any programmer types out there know how this can be done, perhaps with javascript?

Totally agreed. I've been searching for a way to do this as well. It's obvious why steemit is still in "beta" mode, there is still a lot to be desired.
Yep, there's improvements possible for sure. I think they have a good team that are dedicated to making it better, so it's going to improve. We pioneers just need to be patient I guess :)
I'm glad I found this post. I'm relatively new here, and was wondering the same thing. I think I'm still going to add the target attribute, so that in the future, my links may open in a new tab/window.

I have been searching for a solution for a while but without any luck. I think Steemit is still in Beta so, hopefully, someone smart will make this basic feature possible in the future.
I have a script to filter unknown English words in a video and create posts. I just posted the first, and I'd like to be able to open the video in a new page (the script creates the link to the the point where the word is pronounced).
