The importance of being friendly on Steemit

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Let me start this post with two short fictional stories about two totally different people, as examples of what I want to say.

STORY 1

In some of the biggest cities in the world, there was a successful businessman, the boss, the director and god-like figure to his employers. He was one of the richest people in his country. He was harsh to his opponents and even more harsh to his employees. He loved high life he lived, he had few friends but they were just acting as friends. He was mocking them, making fun of them, he was rude and nobody could confront him. He was a real pain in the ass, especially for a new employee, a coffee boy. He was constantly humiliating that young man because he came from the foreign county, spoke strangely and he was too obedient.
One day, the big boss smelled the business opportunity on Steemit. So he joined to the social network and started blogging. His posts were not friendly, he acted hostile to those who commented on his posts and it was very hard for him to get some real followers. Although he invested a lot in Steem Power, the most of the rewards that he got, he got from himself.
He wasn't good as follower neither. He would humiliate people who posted funny stuff, photos and stories calling them "weak and unstable brains".
But Steemit wasn't what he expected. He got used that everybody shows him respect and fear. In outside world, the most people he met had to "bend their knees" in front of them. But on Steemit he felt that he was equal to others. That wasn't familiar ground to him, other Steemers noticed that he is a human trash so he couldn't make any significant success, except what he gave to himself by self upvoting.

STORY 2

This is a story about a young man that came from a foreign, poor country to find a job. He graduated on university, but he knew that in this country, he have to start from the beginning. So he found a job below his education and abilities in some big company. He had to bring the coffee to his strict boss every day and that cruel and evil boss was humiliating and torturing him whenever he had a chance, especially because of poor origins of his new employee and his clumsy English.
But a young mad was eager to work, to learn and he didn't have any choice but to be obedient to that human trash of his boss. He suffered all with a smile on his face and everybody around loved him because of the positive energy that he was spreading.
His salary was too low to pay his rent and bills, so he joined Steemit to make some extra profit. In his first post, he showed his great personality, positive energy and friendly manners. That behavior was natural to him and it brought him many friendly and supporting followers. He was clever and intelligent, his English got better and some whales on Steemit noticed him and they started to like what he does. Suddenly, he started getting big rewards and he realized that he can make it there. He made a decent sum of Steem and started crypto trading. It took some time for him to catch up with all, but his new friends from Steemit gave him a good advice and support. Soon, he made enough money to start his own little business so he resigned his job, but still showing respect and decency to his cruel former employer.

MY POINT

Being hostile won't get you anywhere on Steemit. You can't judge people by their interests, opinions and especially nationalities. When I came on Steemit, there was one or two other Steemers from my county. All the rest were from different parts of the world and each of us started to meet other cultures on ways of life. If you caught the real point here, you know that it is not important who posted something. What is important is the posted content. A year and half ago, there were not so many users here, so we developed this friendly community only from our own natural conversation and by respecting other users. We all knew that if one goes up, the others will follow. And we sent the speech of hate back to Facebook where it belongs.
Today I see that things had changed. We have wars, jealousy and fights here. With larger number of users, some real human trash is camping here, trying to disturb our peace. Some early adopters lost their nerves by watching how low-quality posts get large rewards and the real quality gets only few cents. Well, we are all a little bit guilty for that by not reading all posts that we upvote and upvoting the same people every day. We all have our so called clans and people we stick with on Steemit, but let's be open for others and judge the content instead of it's author.
It is very messy here now, but I still feel that friendly environment that we created. I just hope that it will not vanish with time and upcoming crowds.

Thank you!!!

wow what a story - i like so resteemd this post , vote and following

Thank you! :)))

same same

This is so deep. Thats the real issue I see here, everybody has cliques they follow and upvote, the cliques do the same regardless of the contents. This kills creativity and betray the fundamentas of Steemit. But its not all gloom and doom as we have a good numbers of people especially dolphins and whales that do the right for the growth of minnows and the community.

I go out of my way to avoid conflict on here. I'd like to downvote bad people but fear losing reputation points

Don't downvote someone just because you think she/he is bad. You must have a clear reason for that

Bad people implies they do bad things on Steemit

I too would like to believe that friendly atmosphere you speak of will not disappear. However, so far we are moving in a negative direction. Unfortunately your 1 story does not withstand a collision with reality, it worked a year and a half ago, but not now (only my opinion).

Today you can be rude here and don't even show respect to other users by creating quality content, and don't show a reasonable courtesy and good manners, not to mention the friendliness. If you have contributed a fairly good amount to your account here, as your hypothetical businessman, other users will still strive for you, hoping to get a fat vote, not paying attention to your manners.

it seems more important to me the fact of communication between users. Indifference to the content, to the thoughts and stories shared by the users and only a blind vote deals this place even more damage than rude and unfriendly. Lack of dialogue is worse than quarrels.

Great point! Thank you

This is a great post, the story is amazing. I am very happy to read it.

Thanx for sharing such motivational stories.. 2nd one is touching my heart.. May be i ll b able to do good job some day.. Thanx for motivation

You're welcome

Dunmar that is exactly how I found it on here very welcoming and supportive ! : ) thanks !

Sadly, you still haven't found it like "upvoting others"

I dont understand dumar ? I try my best to support others I never upvote myself, I prefer to support talent how best I can. and always be nice thats just the way I am.

that is important

Cool! Thanks for sharing :)

You're welcome and thanks for commenting

Story 1 has a great example of being friendly can help you to grow your life better and grow your business as well.
I am always friendly with others and I got many new friends that respect me and i respect those.

That's the point! Thanks for understanding this the right way! :)))

Yupp i read carefully so that it gives some knowledge to me :)

I read your story and this is an education story, I think friends are like their brothers when they are shortened, they do not have any friends and all of us have to keep these things in mind and steemit is a family and we all will support

Thank you!!

YES! You are right. we are friendly connected to each other by Steemit. We can learn about our native and foreign culture both. I am so happy to work this platform. I am really so glad.

Thanks for this Nice post.

Am doing upvote and comments as a Steemit lover. @noor.money

Thanks for the nice comment

You are most wellcome.

Great storys dumar022!! Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks, my friend! Keep up with good steemin

@dumar022, it looks like where ever is crowd some bad things happen to come out, is it a human nature or what, don't know where to point finger. But I believe if we continue doing good posts and reading posts of others :) somehow all that spam will be put to it's place. Call me optimist :)

Only optimists will prevail! Thanks

Great stories to present your point

As my mum used to say if you can’t say something nice to someone say nothing

Nice saying! My mom says: better to eat shit than talk shit

Yes that’s another good saying

But not very tasty ;-)

Being an ass on steemit never paid, probably never will. That does not mean you need to sacrifice your beliefs it only means you need to be smart about how you share them.

There is always a good way to say what bothers you without insulting

I like the second story, this is more like me, I'm planning to start my little business in the future by getting some capital from steemit.

Good luck!

This really resonates. I have definitely seen both of those types of people here on steemit. What goes around comes around. Thanks for writing this.

Thanks for commenting on this:)))

You're welcome!

I'd say stay out of trouble, and try to build a community instead of many clans

i quite agree with you, when i entered 10-11 months ago there were fewer people and the whole community were friendlier and kinder. it wasn't just cause of numbers i think most of those people that came were genuine people that wanted to get away from the facebook and instagram culture.

As steemit grew up and at the same time bitcoin skyrocketed ( that took his part in this) more and more people came here but i think at least half of them ( if not more) had the principal of ''make money quick'' and ''have the same attitude as in other social media'' and somehow downgraded the ''good'' levels we had.

On the other hand good people came aboard too so i think we all know the problems here but what we do about it is all that matters. i personally till now try to read what i upvote or at least read most of it and depending the content even if they are my friends i will use a smaller % for let's say a meme (i too upload memes and i would like the same thing to apply for me too) or a random photo and a higher % for thoughts, valuable content, articles

if anyone has any suggestion or ideas to how we can make the community better i am all ears and will gladly participate

I noticed many new users posting only entries for contests and challenges and that's all from them. Thanks for this comment

hmm most of them probably bored to write something decent and want to earn followers and money fast but i think there are some that watch it as a first way to ''obtain'' some audience

What a great post bro ! Great writing ! Upvoted

Thank you!

You nailed it my friend. Better to spread honey to those who's work we admire.

Thanks:)))

Very good story with a great moral. Liked the story very much.

I'm very glad

great story... the photo look like a fair of hand

What about the bots? Can we be mean to them and flag them? lol

Steemit is very different, it will succeed only in kindness and friendliness, evil has no place here...

You are right. The Evil could not play any role on steemit. We need to connect friendly so that we do not fell down from here. Then we can alive with unity.

Thank you very much! :)))
