COLLABORATIVE SUCCESS ON STEEMIT- WHAT WE NEED TO DO!!

in #steemit7 years ago

Just another morning after breakfast and random foraging on the internet, I came across a HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW that claims that in recent times, managers are spending twice the time on networking and collaboration. This stewed my thoughts on how STEEMIT is an embodiment of the concept, and here they are served on a saucer:

“The computer age built bridges, and opened borders and as a consequence has scaled collaborative skills to a height of indispensability as a core ingredient for boundless success”.

HOW TO SEED COLLABORATIVE SUCCESS

DISCLAIMER: ALL SUGGESTIONS BELOW ARE BUILT AROUND THE CORE VALUE OF HONESTY.

1. MOTIVE: Like every project starts with a plan, every game with a strategy, every pregnancy with sex (or maybe not), every relationship must start with a motive. The success of any collaboration is closely knitted to the intents of the collaborators. We should eschew as much as possible the precursors of conflict; a desire to outshine, and the innate tendency for defensiveness. These are often confused with the more positive attitudes of outperforming your expectations and objectiveness. The right motive would be one that incorporates values of co-operation, and puts the collective goal ahead of personal interests.

2. TOOLBOX:  Innovators have flooded us with a vast array of tools to make collaborative endeavors more successful. Yet, effective communication is a rife challenge.

• Communication & Listening: Most of us have grown up learning to be emotionally vulnerable, hence, we often find ourselves stuck in the mud with choice of language or timing, whenever there is an elephant in the room. One strategy that diffuses the problem is known as “first truth first tool”. This works by opening difficult comments using: “This is not an easy issue to discuss, and is not meant to undermine your competence…”; Just as the name implies, it is using the first truth (in this case the difficulty/awkwardness you feel) as your first tool to get the message across clearly and effectively.

Collaboration is a relationship, communication is a two-way street and communication is the bedrock of any relationship. As we learn to express ourselves without contradiction, we must also learn to grasp impressions correctly. Genuine probe for more details on areas of interest, and body language cues reassure the speaker of your attention and gives them the security to entrust you with more details.

• Mirror: I know this one might look misplaced, but it’s symbolic of self-accountability. We will need to assess ourselves without bias, often. Taking responsibility for our deeds, and making decisions to realign and prioritize our collective and personal goals. This sharpens our consciousness, helping us to stay aware of ourselves and our coworkers. Read about the fundamental interpersonal relations orientation theory (FIRO) for further discernment.

3. CONFLICT AWARENESS: if conflict free relationships exist, we will come to know of them when we confirm life support on the planet Saturn. By becoming aware that conflicts are inevitable, we might get wiser in our approaches to resolve them. Taking an academic approach to lay down contingency plans for the unwanted but likely event of conflict, is just another way to guarantee a successful collaboration.

Like the saying goes, Together everyone can achieve more . TEAM!

COLLABORATIVE SUCCESS is very much achievable even more on here STEEMIT, its a responsibility we owe each-other.....
