I consider steemit to be a social media.
I first encountered social media on facebook...and 'likes'.
I use 'upvotes' much the same way I used 'likes'...as part of the conversation...
kinda like saying...'i agree with you'...
when I don't agree...I don't upvote..
kinda sorta...there are always exceptions..
