Steemit feed "hack"

in #steemit9 years ago

Hello Steemit community!

Today I have discovered something strange. I went to home page of steemit and in address bar saw how link to feed looks like.

So I tried to change username of profile and discovered that you can see how someone else's feed looks like.

For this example I will use steemit of @pfunk.

As you can see these 2 pages are different. On the left side is mine feed and on the right pfunk's both opened with same account at the same time.

With this "hack" you can see how feed of any steemit user looks like. Also if some whale follows you, you can see how easy/hard is to find your post.

Another example:
I resteemed post and in my feed is almost on the top but on the right picture we can see @ned's feed page and how much he need to scroll to find it because he follows much more people.

On the same way we can change Ned's password.

It only takes one little thing - his current password :)

This is how it is expected to work. Information within blockchain are public, so you see others feeds. You can even see their wallets and transactions.

"On the same way we can change Ned's password"

You can't. Unless you know his current password.
While you can see all info that other users can, you can't perform actions on their behalf. Those need to be signed using their appropriate key.

Thank you @gtg for your vigilance - you are like the Arnie of steemit - I hope more appreciate that as I do!
Are you witnessing yet?

Yes, thank you.

  1. I just thought that this can be useful information for some users so I posted it.
  2. As I said in text :

"It only takes one little thing - his current password :)"

So i didn't mean that i can change it, just I found funny that anyone can open that site.
Thanks for your comment !

Right, you already wrote that, but some people on chat were so alarmed, completely ignoring that "one little thing" and while clarifying I missed that too. ;-)

hahah. No worries :)

nice. This makes ranking so much easier to check. if someone is logged into google you have no idea and no way of checking how you will show up to an individual person. Who knows what they do with the orders.

Hi @fibra59, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads today and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.

thank you very much! glad you like it

cool

Thanks :)

i love this! I just looked at @dantheman's feed. Even though he doesn't follow me, @krnel just resteemed my last post so now it appears on his feed!

maybe he will upvote your post ;)

He's picky, I'm not counting on it.

you might get lucky :)

Super helpfull, resteemed and followed

Thank you very much!

Do not worry @thejohalfiles, it is expected behavior and no, password can't be changed without user's key.

@transisto thank you for downvote. I appreciate your support :)
