Reviving Fiction-Trail!

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians!

This is the first post by the new @fiction-trail!

As a way to engage the Steemit Community, I have been asked to help find budding new authors and talented creative writers. And my work has been pretty easy! There is no lack of talent here!

I will be looking for new and creative work, from both new Steemians and veterans. At some point in the future I plan on doing some contests (though the nature and theme of these contests is yet to be determined. Something to do with fiction, I would guess). I also want to do some kind of bookclub (I'm still working on the details of that one, too). In the meantime I will be featuring the content that I have found interesting, educational or entertaining!

I love the community here on Steemit and want to encourage more people here to post their original fiction. New to the platform or been here since the beginning, let's support each other through our shared interest in Fiction! I have already found a few authors deserving of some mention.

@alienbutt

The Alienbutt Saga

If you like sci-fi and enjoy laughing, definitely check out this series. Great characters and a fun story. Always makes me laugh. Check out @alienbutt blog to find the books!

@jeffreymartin

Generating ideas for writing

I have seen some fantastic advice in the posts in this series. If you have writers block, or just want to pick up some new techniques for coming up with ideas, go check out @jeffreymartin blog and look for his "Generating Ideas for Writing" posts

@johnjgeddes

Fantastic Writing Style

Very creative author. He puts words on the page (or screen) in such a way that reading it actually paints the beautiful picture of the setting in your mind. I recommend checking out his page @johnjgeddes and just click on the first post that you think looks interesting.

There are plenty of other notable works. Just head on over to the "fiction" page and take a look! I would love to engage the community. Please feel free to comment below. Bear with me as I am just getting my footing and learning my role here as @fiction-trail. I look forward to getting to know the fiction nuts here! Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Remember to follow @fiction-trail and please ReSteem this post to help me spread the word, and as always, Keep on Steemin'!

I still don't have any idea who you are, but I'm glad you're reviving the trail :D I don't know if you saw my reply to you some days ago, but I'm a (I guess former now) curator for @fiction-trail a while back, so if you ever need help with anything please don't hesitate to drop me a note :D Best of luck keeping with the tradition!

I did see your reply the other day. I'm still learning. Kinda figuring things out as I go along. Thank you very much for the encouragement! I may take you up on that offer for advice. What made you stop running the trail, if you don't mind me asking?

I wasn't actually the head, but I was part of the curation team. I think I was the latest member before it became dormant. However, I did manage to put up my fair share of posts for the trail vote. The authors have since gone to accomplish even greater things, which I'm proud of contributing to :D

Thank you for your support! I am just overwhelmed by how well this post has been recieved by the community! I'm really excited for this opportunity to help out the people on this platform and bring users together via common interests. Plus I get the opportunity to help spread the reward pool, and I'm sure we all want some of that!

I am a fan translator and wish to share the beauty of Chinese web novels with English speakers out there.
Glad to discover such a good platform to share my work!

Just make sure to site your sources! Plagerism is HIGHLY frowned upon here on Steemit! But translating is tough work. I saw a post not too long ago offering to pay people who would translate works here on Steemit. I can't remember who posted it, though. I thing it was steemgigs. You should look for it.

Noted. I always include the source of raw text.
Thanks for your suggestion about the offer but I just want to translate what I love reading and not some random official document etc...
After all, you need passion to work with right?

Glad to see the fiction-trail revival! Looking forward to it! As a writer of fiction, I appreciate this work!

I'm glad to be here and have this awesome opportunity to help support the community! Thank you for your kind words!

I joined Steemit because of the fiction and blogging possibilities. I publish a Best Of every day, and the lead link is always fiction. I'll be looking forward to your recommendations (in fact, yesterday the Best Of in fiction was @johnjgeddes). Great to have you back!

Technically I'm not "back". I'm a new user (well, new to the @fiction-trail) running the trail account. But I appreciate your support! I'm really excited to be a part of steemtrails! I followed you and I will be keeping my eyes open for your "best of" posts!

And I'll be watching for you. I write fiction, and I want to do it well enough that I can make the "trail"!

I'll be looking for your works! Im really excited to start doing contests and other such events as well. Keep an eye out for them!

This is awesome news! I have been using the “dead” fiction-trail to find talented authors for the DnS game (2 players needed to fill the roster! Whoever reads this, head over there, if you’re interested.) I’m working on and was pretty sad, that it isn’t active. Fiction is of the main content I wanted to read on Steemit when I first came here and lacked some kind of organized entity, that would help me find new one. Instant follow.

Thanks for the support! I plan on doing some great things, and need all the authors I can find to do so!

I've tried circulating my work in various online formats before, but I haven't seen anything quite like this. Writing of any kind can be a rather solitary experience. After only a short time here, I am already getting a sense of a supportive comminity of very talented people. At last, the Internet proves it's useful for something! Looking forward to interacting with the great folks here.

I love the community here! There are a ton of great people here who are almost as interested in seeing other people succeed as they are in actually succeeding themselves! One of the reasons I am so excited to run fiction-trail. I get to have a larger impact on supporting other users than I do with my own account! I truly believe in Steemit and I am glad to be part of this program in it's infancy! I am also glad that you ended up landing here in your search for a place to share your work! Followed you back! Looking forward to see your work!

Hey Fiction-trail thanks for introducing me to johnjgeddes!

I'm also an aspiring minnow writer, do check out my works! I have two stories going, a Cyberpunk and a Scifi, there's also some oneshot vignettes going on ;)

But again thanks for the Johnjgeddes rec! XD

Well, I'm going to have to thank @fiction-trail again, lol. It's an incredibly encouraging work to assist minnow writers on here and I appreciate all the help I can get. None of us has it all and together we can all benefit

You are quite welcome, good sir! I'm glad that my work is already helping people and bringing users together! Steemit is already a large place, and it's only going to get bigger! Let's help each other find what we are looking for here! "Come for the rewards, stay for the community!"

I'm glad I could help direct you towards some writings that you are going to enjoy! That's what I'm here for! To help bring community members together!

I'm writing a very in depth sci fiction at the moment, and I considered posting it on steem it instead of conventional publishing. ( I already started and got shy/nervous) How does that work? I already planned on looking into it myself but if there's any input on why I should feel secure in the safety of my content on steemit. Hit . Me . Up.

I'd be careful about posting unpublished work on here - Publishers don't like to handle manuscripts that have been out there on social media in whatever shape or form. Use steemit as a forum to test out projects unrelated to your main work. I've serialized chapters of my novel on here (Epiphany , on Amazon Kindle) but I abandoned the project because I had to re-format to suit this site and it just wasn't working for me. It's hard to sustain interest over a long period on here - shorter pieces less than 1000 words do well and you can divide them into parts, but anything of novella or novel length, IMHO, forgeddaboutit LOL!! ( One caveat - I'm just a man, and I reserve the right to be wrong - but wisdom lies in the advice of many counsellors. Solicit others' opinions and take the course that seems best for you) Good Luck!

Thank you for the response! This is what the trail is about! Steemians supporting each other so we can all succeed! Keep up your great work, man!

Excellent advice, Thank you very much!

That is a very good question. One of the reasons I am trying to engage the community. I don't know how to answer that question yet, but possibly @jedau may be able to answer that, or @johnjgeddes. Any help guys?

Thanks! I would love to post my story in parts ( like episodes?)here once I better understand how I'd be protected doing so. Money aside, I'm more concerned about getting ripped off emotionally! lol

I've seen a few stories posted in parts. It's kinda hard to follow them. Especially if the first part you see is somewhere in the middle of the book. The most successful ones I have seen have a kind of "table of contents" at the beggining of the post containing links to the previous posts for easy access. Another thought is that once you complete the next part, you could edit in a link to it in the previous parts or chapters. As in, once you finish "part 4", go back to part 3 and edit in the link to part 4 in your table of contents. I think ease of access to all the parts of an ongoing story will help the story/book/series be more successful. Especially if you are doing a novel. A link to the next chapter at the end of your previously completed chapters will help simulate "turning to the next page" at the end of each chapter. Just my oppinion though.

Wait, isn't edit option only available till first payout?
Then, how are you going to edit 'table of content' when you have new chapter releases?

Honestly I have never tried to edit a post after payout. That makes it a bit more complicated I guess. I will have to look into that. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, it took me 13 days to get back to "Seed" to post Part 3 and of course I linked Part 1 and Part 2 there, but I couldn't edit them to include Part 3 because they were past payout.

This seems so senseless. I mean, it's not like you can get more money from editing old stuff post payout so what is the harm in leaving it open for editing indefinitely? I think I may have read that they are considering changing that at the next hard fork.

That's great advice! 😊 thanks

thank you again, @fiction-trail - I am pleased that the site and work is being revived - I missed it! I also must tell you for the umpteenth time, I'm sure, how much I appreciate the encouragement you provide. You mentioned a few writers I didn't know and I will be sure to check out their posts. So, as you can see, the work you're doing on here is very valuable. Thank you :)

Thank you for the support! I'm honored to have this opportunity to help the community! There is a lot of great work here on Steemit, and I want to help everyone be able to see it and appreciate it! And I look forward to reading more of your as you post here! I'm glad that I am already helping new and veteran users alike!

you certainly are making a difference

So glad someone is reviving this! Hopefully you like my story, "Seed" as much as the last @fiction-trail did :). Please check out Part 1 and Part 2 when you can. I'm working on getting Part 3 up this weekend.

I actually did see part one. I missed part two I think. Thanks for linking me to it! And thank you for the support! Steemit is a beautiful place, thanks a good part to the awesome people here actually happy seeing others succeed! This is a great way for us all to support each other! We can all help each other be successful! And thank you for supporting me here as @fiction-trail!

ohh you got me in the book club thing! I ued to have a review book blog before steem and I want to migrate these entries here on steem. also, why not? start to write fiction here sounds really exiting to me!

I'm still looking into the details of the book club. I want to share my favorite book with everyone, but I don't want to get flagged by cheetabot if I post it. Sources refferenced of course, but still don't know. Working on the details. I will do a post about it if I can ever get it figured out.

Hello!! welcome to this platform! you will love Steemit platform!! Its such an amazing community here, and everyone is so lovely! If you ever get hungry... dont look on my page :P hehe Alla x
