The key i think is to make quality posts something that i bet you know working as a journalist and to interact with others in order to make long-lasting friendships. Also, write about stuff you like and want the way you like and want to. Follow people you find interesting and don't just random ones otherwise in your feed one after the other post will emerge and you won't have the time to read the actual ones that you want.
Try to learn about some apps that are running based in steemit either by searching in here or by clicking in the toolbar next to your profile icon the Aps build on Steemit.
Whatever comes into your mind just ask it everyone will gladly reply and also ask @janicehung, by now she has mastered steemit as well :P
