no. you can use gmail, yahoo, etc.
Can't see an option to register with any email account, only thing I see is what I quoted above.

Sorry about that. Its on the steemit page. Upper right beside your pic is a menu, select join our slack.
I think that takes them some time to fix those details considering that this is a new platform.
