Whales say, "focus on the community not the earnings" while collecting big $$ for garbage content. And like you @garyfire, I can make more $$ per hour working a MacJob. The earnings promise is what motivates us to put up with the crappy User Experience and the buggy content Editor!
online magazines are clamoring for more authors and pay 20 bucks(at least) for 600 words of drivel. Check out The Independent Republic. he pays in LTC
