Waiting is hard.
It was hard to wait when we were kids, it's still hard to wait as adults. Patience is however a skill or attribute that we can develop that makes the passing of time a whole lot easier. Many of us don't get the opportunity these days to exercise much patience due to the instant gratification, on-demand, fast food, google it, world we live in.
Patience involves the ability to put our desires on hold but is more than simple delayed gratification.
Patience is active whereas waiting is passive.
Being active in some pursuit, like work, makes it feel to us as if time flows faster.
In crypto when excising patience we don't simply buy and then wait for our coin to pump. Patience in crypto requires a healthy dose of work. This entails not simply grabbing at the next shiny thing and HODL'ing.
It starts with assessing the market and learning to identify the opportunities. It continues with identifying your wants, needs and desires, your levels of tolerance for risk and your appetite for risk. It involves finding projects that match those criteria, it involves getting involved.
Patience nurtures while simple waiting or HODL'ing is idle.
To use a more down to earth example:
One could throw out a seed and hope a tree will grow and come back in a few years time to see if there is any fruit to be had. Or one could assess the soil and climate, prepare the ground, plant a fitting seed and nurture it as the seedling emerges. Then water regularly, fertilize, prune and tend the growing tree through all its phases until at last we can enjoy its shade and pick its fruit.
Which approach is likely to be more successful?
The same is true in crypto.
Along the way we will also experience the joy of reaching milestones and that will make the time spent less tedious and more rewarding. With patience we discover many small rewards along our journey to the ultimate destination.
Patience brings about refinement. Refinement of our desires, their outcomes and ultimately refinement of ourselves. By not simply rushing headlong into things and demanding instant results we are able to more acutely assess the desired outcome and adjust our expectations.
Through patience we delve to deeper levels of understanding, better focus our actions and increase our happiness and joy when harvesting the fruits of our labors. Through staying engaged and exercising patient persistence we are able to adjust to changes and refine our strategy leading to far greater chances of success in the long run.
I feel like Steem is one of those diamonds you mention. At the moment, around 95% of my portfolio is in Steem and believe me, I have all the patience in the world!
What I love about Steem is you can always earn more Steem with the Steem you have by leasing it out, or you can earn Steem by blogging! I blog on Steemit almost every day and I enjoy seeing my SP rise, in fact I track my SP and Steem on my Binance account I day trade on on Excel every day. Using data from the past month, my day trading has actually been around 160% more profitable than blogging on Steemit, which is interesting.

@gavvet this is the affirmation steemit needs, its always been about the long hodl. So a couple sold out and got lambos, so people like me found the market last year, whats important ia the future and the capabilities of the technology were nurturing. From 2009-2015 the total market cap of crypto barely ever broke 10 billion. Yesterday I watched us jump 24 billion in 3 hours. Perspective, patience and integrity. Much love great post!

I think you just solved a riddle about myself that troubled me for quite a while.
See, when dealing with thinks like Crypto exchange rates and the likes, I never found myself having a problem with patience.
But simple things like waiting for a traffic light or to turn green are making it impossible for me to stay calm. Now I have a good grasp on why that is.
Yes this is natural thing in human but the part that really makes me feel that it's not right to attribute it to Nature is what you Leta said at

In exchange trading, composure is the most important thing. in no case can you give in to emotions. you need to be a robot. And in the world of crypto-currency, in this incredible volatility especially.
You are right patience is only for those who understand how things should be said, that while waiting for the price of some crypto you can study and analyze other currencies to know when it is indicated to invest in them or simply Gain knowledge
I very much am aligned with your thought processes. The only problem I see there is that when one is growing a tree, the knowledge of how to proceed, or whether it even is a tree, is well known. In cryptosphere one could be thinking that he is doing very deep nurturing of a tree, just to find out that the whole process was a wrong one, or that the tree was flawed and bound to perish.
From such a failure experience and knowledge is born, which is a good thing, if the error didn’t cost way too much.
I think that the very important thing to do is to constantly keep double-checking, whether the seed we are nurturing is truly the plant we want to grow, or the weed we actually want to get rid of...
in meantime I keep meditating:)
